Video: 2021 Hyundai Staria Premium launched in Malaysia, 5 Things

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors has officially unveiled the Staria here in Malaysia, the successor to the popular (but aging) Grand Starex MPV. Only one variant is available at launch – the seven-seater Premium, priced from RM358,888 on the road, without insurance, and inclusive of SST exemptions.

The highlight of the all-new Hyundai Staria is, of course, its futuristic spaceship-like exterior design. Key features include the full-width grille and daytime-running lights, the “one curve silhouette”, and massive glasshouse thanks to the significantly lowered beltline and tall height of the vehicle.

But obviously, when you buy an MPV, what you really care about is on the inside – and that’s where things get interesting. The Hyundai Staria Premium in Malaysia is based on the global seven-seater’s range-topping SEL variant, which means it (almost) gets all of the goodies, including the super comfy second-row powered and ventilated captain seats.

Power is derived from a 2.2-litre turbodiesel inline-four mill, which sends 177 hp and 431 Nm of torque to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. If you must know, 0-100 km/h on this massive seven-seater takes 12.4 seconds, onward to a top speed of 185 km/h.

Pricing wise, the entry-point to the Hyundai Staria starts at RM358,888, on the road, without insurance, and inclusive of the SST exemptions. However, that price only includes a standard two-year/50,000 km warranty.

If you are looking for a longer warranty period, the Hyundai Staria with an extended five-year/300,000 km warranty and three-year/50,000 km free service package comes in at RM368,888.
