As Malaysia prepares for the debut of the Jaecoo J5, its electric sibling, the Jaecoo J5 EV, has now made its official debut in Thailand. As reported by Autolifethailand, the B-segment EV SUV will be offered with introductory prices starting at THB549,000 (approx. RM71k), which means it is now currently the cheapest EV SUV available in the Land of Smiles, alongside the Neta V!
Marketed there as the Jaecoo 5 EV, the Jaecoo J5 EV will be priced at THB629,000 (approx RM82k) for the Dynamic and THB679,000 (approx. RM88k) for the Max variants, after the first 1,000 units are sold out. But even then, those prices are still cheaper than the Honda City Hatchback e:HEV, which starts at THB729,000 (approx. RM 95k).
Specifications for the Jaecoo J5 EV in Thailand differs slightly from those in Indonesia and the UK, the latter only launched last week. For our Northern neighbours, the Jaecoo J5 EV is powered by a single electric motor mounted on the front axle producing 211 hp and 288 Nm. This enables a 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and promises a top speed of 175 km/h.
Juiced by a 58.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, the Jaecoo J5 EV in Thailand boast a driving range of 400 km (WLTP), and can be recharged using 11 kW AC or 80 kW DC power.

Being an EV, the car also comes with a 35-litre ‘froot’, or front boot.
Upgrading to the Max variant, the car is more generously equipped with add-ons like a panoramic sunroof, electrically foldable side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, electronically adjusted front passenger seats, and a 12.3-inch centre infotainment display.

The Max variant is also treated to a larger array of safety features, such as a 540-degree surround view camera with an under-floor display, front parking sensors, and 19 driver-assistance features, including a low-speed follow, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Collision Mitigation Systems.
Meanwhile in Malaysia, the Jaecoo J5 is set to be previewed on 21 August. It will be appearing alongside its larger siblings — the Jaecoo J7, Jaecoo J8, and the Omoda C9 PHEV, the latter also making its local debut. Should the J5 EV launch here, it would mark Jaecoo’s first electric vehicle in Malaysia and would be up for some serious competition from brands such as Proton and BYD.
