2025 Jaecoo J5 previewed in Malaysia — bookings open, est. from RM120k

Omoda Jeacoo Malaysia has previewed the Jaecoo J5 for the first time in Malaysia. Now open for booking with a fee of RM1,000, the Jaecoo J5 is poised to be the brand’s entry-level model with fun, pet-friendly features and is expected to be priced from around RM120,000.

Positioned below the Jaecoo J7, the car measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall with a 2,620 mm wheelbase. This places it in the B-segment SUV category and will be competing with models like the Honda HR-V, Proton X50, and its brother from another mother, the Chery Omoda 5.

Despite the smaller number on its nameplate, the Jaecoo J5 still closely mirrors the design of the larger J7, only in a more compact package. It rides on 18-inch wheels and swaps out the flush handles of its sibling for more conventional door handles.

Inside, you’ll be greeted by an eight-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a portrait-oriented 13.2-inch infotainment display with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Standard equipment includes faux leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof (1.45 metres-square, which the company claims is the largest in its class), a wireless charging pad, an eight-speaker sound system, and ambient lighting.

Boot space is rated at 480 litres, expandable up to 1,180 litres by folding down the 60:40 split-folding rear seats.

The Jaecoo J5 will be launched here in Malaysia first as an internal combustion engine (ICE) model, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 147 hp (108 kW) and 210 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels only via a CVT gearbox. Although an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant is available overseas, it is unlikely to reach our market anytime soon.

Safety-wise, the car will feature a 540-degree surround view camera with an under-floor display, and will come with a Level 2.5 advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) featuring capabilities like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Systems, and low-speed follow.

Owners with furry friends will enjoy several features of the car, including a pet mode that ensures the cabin stays secure and at the right temperature, so your pets remain safe and comfortable while you make a quick stop. Along with this, the TÜV-certified (German safety and quality approval) interior also ensures pets won’t be harmed if they chew on materials.

Bookings for the Jaecoo J5 are now open with a fee of RM1,000. Also making its debut at the preview event was the new Omoda C9 plug-in-hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), showcased alongside the flagship Jaecoo J8 and the Jaecoo J7 PHEV. Official pricing will be announced closer to launch, so stay tuned for updates as the Jaecoo J5 arrives in Malaysia later this year.
