Jaecoo J5 EV arrives in UK as Jaecoo E5 — brand’s first EV in Europe


Just a month after its English debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Chery sub-brand Jaecoo has now launched the electric vehicle (EV) variant of the Jaecoo J5 in the UK, marking the first EV from Jaecoo to be available in both the UK and Europe.

Known in the UK as the Jaecoo E5, the electric crossover is offered in two variants, with prices starting from GBP27,505 (approx. RM157k) for the base variant and GBP30,505 (approx. RM174k) for the Luxury variant.  

Based on specifications from the Jaecoo UK website, the J5 EV is powered by a single front-mounted motor producing 207 hp and 288 Nmof torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.7 seconds.

It uses a 61.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that delivers up to 399 km (WLTP) of range, and supports 80 kW DC charging, allowing a 30% to 80% top-up in just 27 minutes. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability is also included.

Inside, the car comes standard with a 13.2-inch centre infotainment display paired with an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and complemented with a six-speaker Sony sound system. The car also comes with a pet mode that regulates cabin temperatures while you are away from the vehicle to keep your furred friends comfortable and safe. 

Upgrading to the Luxury variant adds a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging pad, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and an eight-speaker Sony sound system.

Safety-wise, the Jaecoo J5 EV in the UK comes standard with a 540-degree panoramic camera system and 19 driver-assistance features, including Level 2 Autonomous Driving, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Collision Mitigation Systems.

The Jaecoo J5, in its internal combustion engine guise, was recently teased for a Malaysian debut on social media just last week. Set to be previewed to the public next week on 21 August, it will appear alongside its larger siblings — the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, Jaecoo J8, and the Omoda C9 PHEV that will also debut alongside the compact crossover.
