MG Motor Malaysia announced a commitment to introducing more locally assembled (CKD) models in the near future, following the launch of the CKD MG S5 EV. This update follows a 57% sales growth in Q1 2026 over Q4 2025, where the marque saw 807 units registered against 513 units in the previous quarter, representing a 39% year-on-year growth compared to Q1 2025.
SAIC Motor Malaysia Managing Director, Emory Qi, confirmed the expansion during a media Q&A session. While he did not reveal the specific models, these CKD models could likely be the MG3 Hybrid+ and the MG7, as both were previously previewed at KLIMS 2024. Another candidate is the MG5, which is currently fully imported (CBU) from Thailand.
Another potential CKD model for local introduction is the all-new MG4, featuring a variant equipped with a semi-solid state battery pack. This makes it the world’s first mass-produced passenger vehicle to be equipped with such technology.
The company further stated it will showcase several models powered by a variety of powertrains at KLIMS 2026 this June. The line-up includes internal combustion (ICE) engines, hybrids (HEVs), and fully-electric (EV) models.
Like the CKD MG S5 EV, these future models will be assembled at the EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) plant in Pegoh, Melaka. According to SAIC Motor Malaysia Chief Operating Officer, Hoffen Teh, this facility serves as the marque’s regional manufacturing partner and export hub, including for markets in South America.

“Q1 has been a meaningful and encouraging start to the year for MG in Malaysia,” said Emory Qi. “From product recognition to the local roll-out of the MG S5 EV CKD, these milestones reflect the strength of our product line-up and our long-term commitment to the Malaysian market.”
He added, “As we move further into 2026, we remain focused on delivering compelling products, strengthening customer engagement, and continuing to expand our footprint through innovation and localisation.”
Also on the cards is the expansion of the MG Motor Malaysia after-sales network. This includes the addition of new MG 3S centres in Kuantan and Rawang, along with up to 11 body and paint facilities nationwide.
