Jetour G700 shown in China as a 904 hp luxury-off-roading beast

While Chery draws the crowds on one side of the Beijing Autoshow 2026, its own in-house rival Jetour is fighting for attention with its loudest statement yet — the Jetour G700, a proper off-road-focused SUV that’s constructed on a ladder frame chassis.

If the images make the car seem massive, that’s because it is. The Jetour G700 measures 5,198 mm long, 2,050 mm wide, and 1,956 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,870 mm. That puts it right alongside large off-road-focused SUVs such as the GWM Tank 500, Toyota Land Cruiser, and even the Land Rover Defender 110.

Speaking of the Defender, Jetour says the G700 was designed by former Land Rover Chief Designer Andrew Collinson, which explains its more Western-inspired styling. Everything about it leans heavily into the off-road vibe — there are no full-width light bars, rounded edges, or smooth flowing surfaces. Instead, every panel just seems straight, utilitarian, and intentful. The SUV rides on 20-inch wheels as standard and even carries a full-size 18-inch spare wheel mounted at the rear.

Inside, it combines the rugged off-roading theme with China’s love for high-tech, screen-filled interiors and luxury. Dominating the dashboard is a massive 15.6-inch infotainment display, complemented by a 35.4-inch panoramic screen stretching across the base of the windscreen — much like BMW’s Panoramic iDrive setup. Rear passengers are not left out either, with a ceiling-mounted 17.3-inch display that folds down when needed.

Additional luxuries include a Lexicon sound system with up to 18 speakers, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and an integrated fridge housed beneath the front centre armrest. Buyers can also choose between five- and six-seat configurations, with the latter featuring middle-row captain seats.

Underneath the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s paired with a set of electric motors powering all four wheels and a two-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) for what Jetour claims is an industry-first clutchless gearshift design, giving a total system output of 904 hp and 1,135 Nm. As a result, the G700 can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 180 km/h.

Power for the electric system comes from a 34.13 kWh battery pack supplied by CATL. Thanks to its 800V electrical architecture, the G700 supports DC fast charging at up to 170 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 30-80% in just 10 minutes. AC charging is supported too, with a full charge taking around five hours. Combined with the combustion engine setup, the Jetour G700 boasts a total driving range of up to 1,400 km under the CLTC test cycle.

To put its money where its mouth is, the Jetour G700 boasts a water wading depth of up to 970 mm, thanks to its IP68 water resistnace rating for the engine, transmission, and electrical components. It also offers an approach angle of 40 degrees and a departure angle of 32 degrees, while being capable of climbing gradients of up to 45 degrees.

The Jetour G700 has been hinted in Beijing to be headed for Malaysia in the near future. For now, however, there are no confirmed launch dates or pricing details. That said, it likely will not stray too far from its domestic rivals, particularly the GWM Tank 500. For context, the G700 is priced in China from CNY329,900 (around RM189,000), while the Tank 500 starts slightly higher at CNY360,000 (approximately RM207,000). In Malaysia, the Tank 500 is currently priced from RM328,800 on the road and without insurance.
