It’s been a while since we last heard of the Pajero, especially for us Malaysians, but it seems Mitsubishi is finally ready to talk about the body-on-frame SUV again. In a recent year-end video celebrating the marque’s rallying heritage, including its recent win at the 2025 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR), Mitsubishi seems to have also included a shadowy teaser of a certain boxy SUV towards the end – approximately 55 seconds into the minute-long film.
While it’s not quite confirmed yet that the car in the video is indeed the Mitsubishi Pajero, the fact that the teaser appeared right after the iconic Pajero Evo rally raid race car must be at least saying something… right?
Despite still shrouded in darkness, the boxy SUV in the teaser does match closely with the alleged Mitsubishi Pajero prototype that has been caught testing last year. Here, it’s adopted a new T-shaped light signature up front, somewhat similar to that of the Xforce, and the strong rear haunches akin to the Destinator.
The overall silhouette certainly implies a muscular and large SUV, but reports online have also suggested that this new model will instead be based on the Mitsubishi Triton. You may recall that this Triton-based SUV used to be called the Pajero Sport, but rumours point towards the model dropping the Sport suffix for this generation.

If it is indeed based on the pickup truck, then expect the Pajero to also share the former’s powertrain options, which consists of the 2.4-litre 4N16 turbodiesel four-cylinder, in both single- or twin-turbo variants, with outputs rated at 184 hp/430 Nm and 204 hp/470 Nm respectively.
The Triton is also rumoured to receive a hybrid powertrain soon, and we think electrification could also be particularly suited to SUV services too. Nevertheless, with the first teaser now out, we probably won’t have to wait too much longer to find out more.
