Mitsubishi Xforce spotted in Malaysia – to launch soon with 1.5L NA?

It appears the Mitsubishi Xforce could soon be making its debut here in Malaysia, if these spyshots – sent in to us by an anonymous AutoBuzz.my reader – is anything to go by. The spyshots show two units of the compact crossover at a storage yard, completely uncamouflaged, and being loaded into transporter trucks, hinting that an official first local appearance could be happening very soon.

Revealed in Indonesia back in 2023, the Mitsubishi Xforce measures 4,390 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, 1,660 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. This places it comfortably in the B-Segment compact crossover category and measures similarly to the Honda HR-V, the Nissan Kicks, and the Proton X50.

Looking at the photos, the Mitsubishi Xforce appears largely unchanged from the Indonesian model. It retains the Mitsubishi Dynamic Shield front grille, T-shaped headlights at the front, and matching taillights at the rear. To emphasise its rugged, off-road-inspired character, the SUV features bold side arches and rides on what appears to be dual-tone 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.

A noticeable difference on the Malaysian-spec model is the “XFORCE” word mark displayed on the front bonnet, a look first seen on the hybrid variant that made its debut in Thailand last year. The two units destined for Malaysia also appears to sport a rear spoiler, which is reserved only for the top-tier Diamond Sense package in Indonesia (along with extra roof rails).

If the Malaysian Xforce launches with the same specifications as its Indonesian counterpart, it should carry the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder powertrain producing 105 hp and 141 Nm, with power sent to the front wheels via a CVT transmission. Said to be designed specifically for ASEAN driving conditions, the Xforce offers multiple drive modes — Normal, Gravel, Mud, and most notably, Wet.

Inside, the Xforce pairs an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In Indonesia, higher-end variants come with an eight-speaker Yamaha Dynamic Sound Premium system.

As for Thailand, the Xforce is offered there exclusively with Mitsubishi’s e:Motion hybrid powertrain, which pairs a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine – acting as a generator – with an electric traction motor. Together, the system produces 116 hp and 255 Nm of torque.

The Thai model also features some styling differences, including chrome slats on the front grille, unique wheel designs, a blacked-out roof, and most notably, hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) badging on the lower right of the tailgate – absent on the units spotted here in Malaysia.

The Mitsubishi Xforce earned a five-star ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries) safety rating in 2024. It scored 79.15 out of 100 points, reflecting strong safety performance for adults, children, motorcyclists, and safety-assist technologies.

With the cars now spotted in Malaysia, it shouldn’t be too long before the Mitsubishi Xforce makes its official debut here – so stay tuned with us to keep up on the latest developments.
