A camouflaged test mule, widely believed to be the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7), has been spotted in Malaysia once again in a photo shared by an anonymous member of the Proton eMAS 7 Owners Malaysia Facebook group. With only its body panels camouflaged, the image could hint at the car’s imminent launch, possibly in early 2026.

Known as the Geely Galaxy Starship 7 EM-i in China, the car has already been launched in several international markets bearing different names. Around Asia, the car is being sold as the Geely Starray EM-i in both Australia and Indonesia.

Built on the same Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) as the Proton e.MAS 7, the Geely Starray EM-i in Australia combines a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 99 hp and 125 Nm with an electric motor delivering 218 hp and 320 Nm. This allows for a 0-100 km/h in 8.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 170 km/h.

Paired with an 18.4 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, the car boasts a fuel efficiency rating of just 2.4 L/100 km and a total range of 943 km under the WLTP cycle. On electric power alone, it can also travel up to 83 km under the same testing cycle. Charging is supported at up to 7 kW AC and 30 kW DC, and the car also offers 6 kW of vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability.

Recently, the Geely Galaxy Starship 7 EM-i in China received an update, featuring a more powerful 238 hp motor and faster 36 kW DC charging, allowing a 30–80% recharge in just 20 minutes. It’s possible that the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV could feature the updated powertrain too.

The PHEV can be distinguished by its styling, notably the split headlight design with full-width daytime-running lights, unlike the standard eMAS 7. The rear lightbar also has a more elegant signature. Entry-level models come with 18-inch wheels, while higher-end variants offer optional 19-inch wheels.

Inside, expect a similar sight to the Proton eMAS 7. It offers leather upholstery, a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a 16-speaker Flyme Sound system, a 10.2-inch letterbox-style digital cluster, and a floating 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen — which may include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in Malaysia, unlike the overseas version.
