Following the recent launch of the Jaecoo J8 in Malaysia, Omoda Jaecoo has now held the world debut of the Jaecoo J8 PHEV in Indonesia at the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). In the Indonesian market, the new plug-in hybrid variant is known as the Jaecoo J8 SHS ARDIS.
The Jaecoo J8 PHEV was launched concurrently in the archipelago with its petrol-powered sibling. The standard Jaecoo J8 is priced at IDR689.9 million (approx. RM179k) and the PHEV variant at IDR850 million (approx. RM220k), with deliveries scheduled to begin in September 2025, Otodriver reports.
The Jaecoo J8 PHEV is essentially the plug-in hybrid variant of the J8. It features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) that houses an electric motor to drive the front wheels, supplemented by a second electric motor on the rear axle to provide an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup.
The powertrain delivers a combined 537 hp (395 kW) and 650 Nm of torque, which enables the J8 PHEV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. Equipped with a 34.4 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, the J8 PHEV has a pure electric range of 180 km and an impressive combined range of 1,400 km.

While Jaecoo Indonesia did not disclose the charging specifications, its sibling, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, supports 6.6 kW AC and 40 kW DC charging for its 18.3 kWh battery. We reckon the J8 PHEV’s charging specs will be around these figures, if not higher, given its significantly larger battery pack.
Other features on the J8 PHEV in Indonesia include a vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature, CDC (Continuous Damping Control) suspension, and ARDIS (All Road Drive Intelligent System).
Unlike the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, which has minor exterior differences from its petrol sibling, the Jaecoo J8 PHEV’s exterior remains largely the same as its petrol counterpart. It features the identical Waterfall front grille and 20-inch alloy wheels, with the only notable addition being a new charging flap on the rear-left quarter panel.
Like the Malaysian-spec J8, the SUV in Indonesia is also available as a five- or six-seater, with the latter configuration introducing captain chairs in the second row for a 2+2+2 configuration.
Upfront, the interior of the PHEV variant is differentiated by a crystal-furnished rotary dial for selecting its seven drive modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow, Sand, and Off-road. The upholstery is also a unique combination of Nappa leather and Alcantara.
As the Jaecoo J8 has only just launched in Malaysia, the debut of the J8 PHEV on local roads could be some time away. Looking at the timeline of the Jaecoo J7 PHEV’s launch, which was roughly a year after the introduction of the petrol J7, Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia could employ a similar timeline for the introduction of the Jaecoo J8 PHEV.
