Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has officially launched its new flagship model, the Jaecoo J8, in Malaysia. Available in two variants as a five- or six-seater, the Jaecoo J8 is locally assembled (CKD) and is priced from RM178,800 on-the-road, without insurance.
- Jaecoo J8 2WD – RM178,800
- Jaecoo J8 AWD – RM198,800
Measuring 4,820 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,710 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm long, the Jaecoo J8 is positioned to compete against rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Mazda CX-8. Based on these figures, the Jaecoo J8 is slightly larger overall than both of the aforementioned models.
Making a bold statement, the Jaecoo J8 features a prominent, imposing Waterfall front grille. Compared to its cousin, the Omoda C9, the overall design of the J8 is more conventional, with some design cues reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz GLC and Range Rover. Towards the rear, however, the J8 is quite similar to the Omoda C9. The most notable difference is the J8’s use of twin exhaust cutouts on the rear bumper, as opposed to the quad-exhaust outlets found on the C9.
Standard exterior equipment on the Jaecoo J8 include:
- LED headlights with daytime running lights (DRLs)
- Flush door handles
- 20-inch alloy wheels
- Hands-free powered tailgate
- Panoramic sunroof
- NFC card accessibility
- Automatic rain-sensing front and rear wipers
- Rear privacy glass (AWD variant only)
Depending on the variant, the Jaecoo J8 can be configured as either a five or a six-seater. Opting for the six-seater replaces the second-row bench with two comfortable captain’s chairs, creating a 2-2-2 layout.
While this configuration provides a central walkway for third-row access, taller individuals will still have to bend down significantly. This makes the third row best suited for children or shorter adults on longer journeys. Bootspace on the J8 2WD is rated at 738 litres, which is expandable to 2,021 litres. On the AWD variant, the boot space with the third-row upright is rated at 200 litres and can be expanded to 738 litres.
Standard interior equipment of the Jaecoo J8 in Malaysia includes:
- 12.3-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
- 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster
- Leather upholstery
- 12-speaker Sony sound system
- 50W ventilated wireless charging pad
- Centre console storage bin with cooling functionality
- NFC-based keyless entry
- Digital video recorder
- Front passenger boss button
Stepping up to the Jaecoo J8 AWD variant adds the following interior equipment:
- Six seater configured in a 2+2+2 layout
- Second-row captain chairs
- Queen’s front passenger seat with adjustable leg support
- Nappa leather upholstery
- 256-colour ambient lighting system
- Microfiber headliner
- Heated, ventilated, massage, and memory driver and front passenger and second row seats.
- 14-speaker Sony sound system with two integrated speakers in driver’s headrest
- Fragrance dispenser
Powering the Jaecoo J8 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 249 hp and 385 Nm of torque. This is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with power sent to either the front wheels or all four wheels, depending on the variant. This setup allows the J8 FWD variant to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.8 seconds and 9.0 seconds for the AWD variant. Both FWD and AWD variants have a top speed of 200 km/h.
As standard, the Jaecoo J8 is available with three drive modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. On the AWD variant, this sees the addition of Sport, Mud, Sand, and Off-road modes. The AWD variant also gets additional drivetrain features like torque vectoring control and CDC suspension.
For safety equipment, the Jaecoo J8 is equipped with six airbags, whereas the AWD variant is equipped with 10 airbags. As standard, both variants of the Jaecoo J8 are equipped with a 540-degree surround view camera system and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The AWD variant is exclusively equipped with the carmaker’s OneBox, brake-by-wire system, and fully automatic parking capability.
As standard, the Jaecoo J8 is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver safety assistance systems (ADAS), which includes:
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
- Driver monitoring system (DMS)
- Lane change assistance (LCA)
- Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
- Forward distance monitoring (FDM)

The Jaecoo J8 is priced from RM178,800, inclusive of a seven-year warranty or up to 150,000 km warranty.
