The GWM Wey 80, in what should be its final production guise, will be making its first public debut in Malaysia this weekend at the PACE 2025 event, ahead of a scheduled launch sometime later this year.
While the luxury MPV was displayed at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) last year, the car shown there was still a left-hand drive unit in its pre-updated form. The preview happening this weekend, taking place at Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC) from 19-20 July, will feature the right-hand drive (RHD) GWM Wey 80 for the first time in the country (and in the world!), giving us a closer look at what to expect when it finally launches later this year.
GWM Malaysia has previously confirmed that local assembly (CKD) works has been planned for the Wey 80, to be carried out by a “third party”, likely referring to PEPS-JV Melaka (PJVM), the appointed contract vehicle assembler for GWM in Malaysia. Its operations are based at its wholly-owned subsidiary, EP Manufacturing Berhad’s (EPMB) facility in Melaka.
The luxury MPV assembled here in Malaysia will also be exported to neighbouring countries, including Thailand, although the first batch of cars will most likely arrive in fully imported (CBU) form before the assembly line gets up and running.

In a press release, GWM Malaysia has also confirmed that the Wey 80 will arrive in Malaysia with the Hi4 (hybrid intelligent 4WD) plug-in hybrid powertrain. Based on its specifications in China, that consists of a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, two electric motors (including one on the rear e-Axle), as well as a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, for a total system output of 458 hp and 644 Nm.
The 51.55 kWh battery pack enables a 201 km pure electric range, translating to a total driving range of 963 km when dinosaur juices gets involved.
