GWM Malaysia has announced it will be launching two new models by the second half of 2025. While the company did not directly reveal the new models, the press release says that the company will introduce two new models in the “premium” and “performance” segments, the latter “a sportier, high-performance twist on a popular electric hatchback”.
No surprises, then, as both the GWM Ora Good Cat GT and Wey 80 have both already been confirmed for our market previously. The announcement now gives us a firm timeline on the two models’ arrival.
The GWM Ora Good Cat GT was first announced for Malaysia during the preview of the GWM Tank 500, and is the performance-oriented variant of the Ora Good Cat. As the “GT” moniker suggests, the Good Cat GT features a beefier powertrain, which makes 171 hp (126 kW) and 250 Nm of torque. This is a 28 hp and 40 Nm increase over the standard Ora Good Cat.
Juiced by a 57.70 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, the Ora Good Cat GT has a range of 460 km (NEDC) with charging supported by 6.6 kW AC charging and 60 kW DC charging, allowing 30-80% recharge in 30 minutes.
Its exterior design features large faux air vents and slightly flared black wheel arches and includes a two-tone spoiler with a “GT” emblem embossed in its end plate, diffuser elements on the rear bumper, and five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels with two-tone accents, all contributing to a sportier design exclusive to the GT variant.

On the other end of the spectrum, the GWM Wey 80 is a luxury MPV equipped with a plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) powertrain that features a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 170 hp and 245 Nm alongside two electric motors, paired to a four-speed hybrid gearbox.
In total, the PHEV powertrain on the Wey 80 produces 458 hp (337 kW) and 644 Nm, with the electric motors drawing power from a ternary lithium-ion (NMC) battery pack available in 44.28 kWh or 51.55 kWh capacities.
With the 44.28 kWh battery pack, the pure electric range of the Wey 80 is rated at 172 km (WLTC), while the combined range is rated at 945 km (WLTC). Equipped with the larger 51.55 kWh pack, the electric range on the Wey 80 extends to 201 km (WLTC) and the combined range to 963 km (WLTC).
As a premium MPV, the Wey 80 is equipped with the usual suite of luxury amenities such as second-row captain chairs upholstered in Nappa leather with heating, ventilation, massage functions, leg rests and retractable small tables.
When the GWM Wey 80 launches in Malaysia, it will most likely be a locally assembled (CKD) model, as indicated by GWM Chairman, Jack Wey. Speaking during a press conference at Auto Shanghai 2025, Wey stated the company aims to produce the MPV in a local manufacturing facility with a third party in Malaysia.
The ‘third party’ Wey mentioned is most likely PEPS-JV Melaka (PJVM), the appointed contract vehicle assembler for GWM in Malaysia. Its operations are based at the facility of its wholly-owned subsidiary, EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB), in Melaka.
The facility currently assembles the GWM Haval H6 HEV, which is now reportedly the number two best-selling hybrid vehicle in Malaysia; the company refers to the model as a “leading hybrid choice for Malaysians” in its press release.
In celebration of the achievement, GWM Malaysia is now offering a limited-time promotion on the Haval H6 HEV, which includes savings worth up to RM6,600 and an upgraded 10-year HEV battery warranty. The enhanced warranty is also extended to existing customers of the Haval H6 HEV.
Concurrent with the achievement, GWM Malaysia also reported that the company has surpassed its total sales for 2024 in just six months of 2025, representing a 20.3% increase over the previous half-year. The company is also expanding its nationwide presence with the establishment of 26 outlets by mid-2025, with the goal of 35 outlets by year-end.
With July already upon us, we hope that it won’t be long before GWM Malaysia announces more details on the two upcoming new models for Malaysia. Stay tuned to our coverage as we eagerly wait for the official launch event!
