The Hyundai Ioniq 6 N will corner faster and drift better than its number 5 sibling

Ahead of its full debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 10th, Hyundai has teased key upgrades for the Ioniq 6 N—including revised suspension, enhanced shift visuals and sound effects, and an improved drift mode.

Widely praised as a game-changer for electric vehicles (EVs), the Ioniq 5 N proved that driving an EV can still be thrilling, despite the added weight and absence of genuine engine noise. Now, Hyundai is set to raise the bar even higher with the Ioniq 6 N, which it says will showcase “the next level of N brand performance.”

Hyundai says the Ioniq 6 N will be fitted with a bespoke suspension setup to complement its lower ride height, courtesy of its sedan body shape. The car’s redesigned suspension geometry allows for a lower roll centre and an enlarged caster trail, improving on-centre feel, steering feedback, and self-centring characteristics. It will also feature new electronically controlled stroke-sensing (ECS) dampers to help balance comfort and handling precision.

Remember the simulated gear shifts called “N e-shift” in the Ioniq 5 N? The Ioniq 6 N takes that feature to another level, with the N e-shift now available across all drive modes, instead of being limited to just one “enthusiastic” mode. This time, the shifting experience is made even more immersive with the “N Ambient Shift Light”, which essentially transforms all of the interior’s ambient lighting into a shift indicator light.

Sticking to that theme of outdoing the Ioniq 5 N, the Ioniq 6 N will feature a new N drift optimiser for even better drifting performance. Hyundai promises that drivers can now fine-tune the drifting characteristics of the car thanks to a broader range of customisation options. This allows the experience to be tailored based on the driver’s drifting proficiency.

N Management Group Head and Vice President, Joon Park, said, “The Ioniq 6 N has been developed to provide the most engaging driving experience possible in an EV. Hyundai N will once again disrupt the EV segment, not with headline-grabbing numbers, but by demonstrating how fun an electric car driving experience can be.”
