The Volvo ES90 will be launched in Malaysia in 2026. This was revealed by Volvo Car Malaysia Managing Director, Chris Wailes during a media event today, who said that the fully electric (EV) sedan will be arriving on our shores in the “early part of next year”.
The Volvo ES90 was revealed globally in March 2025, and will take the place as the flagship sedan model in its EV line-up alongside the Volvo EX90, the latter already launched in Malaysia recently.

Based on the same SPA2 architecture as the EX90, the Volvo ES90 is shorter than its SUV sibling, yet it has a longer wheelbase at 3,102 mm. Thanks to its sloping roofline, the Volvo ES90 is the company’s most aerodynamic model to date, with a drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd.
Uniquely, the Volvo ES90 has a raised ride height of 203 mm, giving it a slightly taller appearance, in what Wailes describes as “not a normal sedan”.

Three powertrain options were announced during its global debut, including one single motor, and two twin-motor configurations. The Single Motor variant is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 245 hp and is equipped with a 92 kWh battery pack, enabling a range of 644 km.
The second variant is the Twin Motor, which sees it gain a front-mounted electric motor that boosts the power up to 442 hp. Equipped with a larger 106 kWh battery pack, the Twin Motor variant has a range of 700 km.
The top Twin Motor Performance, as its name suggests, features a dual-motor powertrain with an output of 670 hp. This enables the ES90 to do 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Equipped with the same 106 kWh battery pack, it has a range of 700 km.
Thanks to its 800V architecture – Volvo’s first – the ES90 supports DC fast charging at up to 350 kW, allowing it to regain 300 km of range in just 10 minutes. Furthermore, the sedan only needs 20 minutes to charge from 10-80%.
For interior equipment, the Volvo ES90 features a 14.5-inch central portrait infotainment display running on Volvo’s next-generation Volvo Car UX with Google Built-in features. This new infotainment system is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Platform.
Aside from infotainment, the Volvo ES90 is also the company’s most powerful model in terms of computing power, thanks to its dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin configuration that can process over 500 trillion operations per second (TOPS).
These chips then power the ES90’s suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which revolves around five radars, seven cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and a LiDAR sensor located on the roof, just like the Volvo EX90.
Aside from the ES90, Wailes also hinted at a lot more model launches in the coming “months and years”. He reiterated his predecessor’s promise of one EV launch every year for the foreseeable future, although they will also still be offering new plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid models as well.
