GWM Haval H6 HEV: Choosing the correct hybrid to fit your lifestyle

The electrification of passenger vehicles has brought about a wealth of innovative technologies with the aim of elevating performance while improving efficiency at the same time. At the core of electrification are hybrid powertrains that play a key role in the quest to attain true sustainable mobility.

Different manufacturers offer different concepts on how to make the most out of the hybrid electric systems. Some manufacturers choose a mild level of electrical assistance with a small battery, relying mainly on the internal combustion engine to do the heavy lifting, while others deploy large batteries and electric motors, even resorting to external charging such as plug-in hybrids (PHEV).

Every solution has its advantages and drawbacks. Mild hybrids may not be as efficient in the real world when the internal combustion engine is called upon constantly, while PHEVs require external charging or its efficiency could be impacted when the high-voltage batteries are depleted. Additionally, many households in Malaysia do not have access to cost-effective home charging.

Groundbreaking self-charging hybrid system

GWM Haval’s implementation of the hybrid technology addresses these shortcomings. The cutting-edge hybrid system in the Haval H6 HEV is centred around a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine with the world’s first high temperature-resistant Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT), the four-cylinder also runs on a high-pressure 350-bar direct injection system and utilises deep Miller Cycle to optimise combustion and fuel efficiency.

The turbocharged engine is paired with a GWM-developed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) – a groundbreaking invention showcasing a dual-motor assembly with electric power being derived from a compact yet lightweight 1.6 kWh battery pack, as well as a state-of-the-art two-speed direct engine drive.

The stats are class-leading – a combined system output of 243 hp and 530 Nm, backed up by a fuel consumption of 5.8 L/100km (17.2 km/L) – this translates to a range of over 1,000km from a full tank of fuel (61 litres). For a spacious mid-sized SUV with a kerb weight of 1,720 kg, the Haval H6 HEV is capable of dispatching 0-100km/h in only 7.75 seconds (via launch control) and onwards to a top speed of 175 km/h.

The intelligent hybrid system with zero compromises

The flexibility of the GWM Haval H6 HEV’s hybrid system allows it to perform at the highest levels of efficiency without having to rely on external charging. Whether it is powered purely by electric motors in city traffic, or when two energy sources combine at cruising speeds, or when the turbocharged engine takes over at higher speeds, the Haval’s intelligent hybrid system always offers a responsive and seamless performance based on the demands of the driver.

Over the long run, the GWM Haval H6 HEV is also potentially more frugal to run and maintain compared to similarly-sized PHEV SUVs with higher kerb weights. Wear and tear items such as tyres are less impacted by mass and in the unlikely event that the high-voltage battery requires replacing, the cost would also be much more manageable. For the record, the Haval H6 HEV offers exceptional long-term assurance with a 10-year or 1,000,000 km engine warranty, an 8-year or 1,000,000 km hybrid system warranty, and a 7-year or 200,000 km vehicle warranty, ensuring peace of mind for years to come.

In fact, the Haval H6 HEV offers much more than just a reassuring warranty on its technologically advanced drive system, it is also fitted as standard with the latest advanced driver assistance systems including Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).

This is on top of pampering occupants with a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8-speaker audio system, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging and ample legroom to stretch out in a high-quality cabin with premium appointments.
