MG Motors, via their Weibo page, has revealed the all-new next-generation MG4 EV hatchback, sporting a completely new design that sets it significantly apart from its predecessor. It seems MG Motors had a look at the previous MG4 EV and thought it was too ‘funky’, so they moulded the new one to be more mature.
The new hatch sports a more refined and less aggressive front bumper, with smaller sculpted front air intakes and a new tail light design inspired by the MG Cyberster, carrying over the arrow design and connected by a full-width element in between.
On the sides, the all-new MG4 EV also features redesigned doors, omitting the massive black trims present on the predecessor.
The new MG4 EV measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,551 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. This makes the next generation model larger in all dimensions than the outgoing hatch, which is currently on sale in Malaysia. The larger dimensions should translate to more interior space.
No information was released about the new MG4 EV’s interior, but for context, the current MG4 EV features a 7-inch digital instrument display and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

CarNewsChina reports – based on regulatory filing – that the new MG4 EV will be powered by an electric motor producing 163 hp (120 kW), giving it a top speed of 160 km/h. Compared to the current model in its standard single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) guise on sale in Malaysia, which outputs 170 hp (125 kW) and 250 Nm, the all-new MG4 EV is actually slightly less powerful.
Despite the all-new MG4 EV having a slightly less power, it should still feel similarly – if not more – snappy to its predecessor, thanks to its much lower curb weight that tips the scales at 1,485 kg, compared to the current model’s 1,641 kg.
The same Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing also revealed that the all-new MG4 EV will be equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery of undisclosed capacity. For context, the current MG4 EV is offered with battery packs of different capacities (51 kWh, 64 kWh, and 77 kWh), providing a range of 350 km to 520 km (WLTP).
Given that the current MG4 EV was launched in Malaysia just last year, it’s probable that a local debut of the next generation model is some way off. Of course, things can change quickly in the car market, but for now, it seems a wait is in order.
