Lotus Emeya R sets production EV lap record at Sepang International Circuit

The Lotus Emeya R has set the publicly reported production EV lap record at Sepang International Circuit (SIC), clocking a time of 2:20.317 around the 5.543 km circuit. Driven by GT racing driver Daniel Lu, the standard showroom-specification production vehicle reached a top speed of 248.8 km/h.

For comparison, this is 7.473 seconds quicker than the previous EV benchmark set in early 2026. The achievement marks Lotus’s second official time attack at SIC, following the Lotus Emira, which recorded a 2:27.932 lap in 2025 with Malaysian motorsport icon Tengku Djan Ley behind the wheel.

Furthermore, the latest lap record marks Hethel’s first all-electric Time Attack programme in Southeast Asia. The initiative was led by a Lotus Group Vehicle Dynamics Engineer, ensuring the vehicle setup and execution reflected the engineering principles used throughout Lotus’s global vehicle development programme.

“At Lotus, the track has always been the ultimate proving ground. Every Lotus is engineered around one purpose – For The Drivers. Every engineering decision we make, from chassis tuning and steering feel to aerodynamics and power delivery, is focused on delivering confidence, precision and an engaging driving experience,” said Lotus Senior Director for Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics, Chong Yok Meng,

Locally, the record-setting Lotus Emeya R is absent from the line-up, as Lotus Cars Malaysia splits the grand tourer into five variants across the 600 Series and 900 Series. A cursory check on the local configurator shows only the 600 Series is currently available, priced from RM489,000. This series features a dual-motor powertrain producing 603 hp, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.15 seconds.
