Video: 2025 Jaecoo J7 PHEV in Malaysia, RM158,800

Well, it’s finally here! The highly anticipated 2025 Jaecoo J7 PHEV is now on sale in Malaysia from RM158,800, fresh from Chery Malaysia’s Shah Alam assembly line. But what are you getting with that price tag other than a new plug-in hybrid SUV?

Luckily for you, we have a video showing you exactly that!

For starters, there’s this thing that Jaecoo calls the ‘Super Hybrid System’. The Jaecoo J7 PHEV sports a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is mated to a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) with an integrated motor and 18.3 kWh hybrid battery pack.

Altogether, the Super Hybrid System sends a respectable 347 hp (255 kW) and 525 Nm of torque to the front-wheel drive (FWD) configuration. This allows the Jaecoo J7 PHEV to accomplish a century sprint time of 8.5 seconds, plus a top speed of 180 km/h.

The Super Hybrid System can also switch between either using pure petrol or pure electric driving modes, in addition to parallel and series hybrid configurations.

Additionally, because the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is a plug-in hybrid SUV, it also has a cumulative range of 1,300 km (NEDC)which we easily proved in our recent drive to Hatyai. Further contributing to its impressive range is a fuel consumption rate of 4.7L/100 km, as well as a pure electric range of 104 km.

On the outside, there are some key visual differences with the Jaecoo J7 PHEV if you know where to look. The easiest way to do so is the new 19-inch aero wheels, aero side mirrors, and the new rear bumper that hides the exhaust pipes. Otherwise, the PHEV badging on the back will give it away.

The inside sees some radical changes from its regular petrol sibling. Gone is the gear shifter from the centre console, and is found as a stalk behind the steering wheel. In its place are physical buttons for PHEV controls and drive settings.
