On the exterior surface, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV looks nearly identical to the regular pure-petrol Jaecoo J7. However, if you look closely enough, there are some slight changes to be seen on the outside:
- Aero side mirrors
- 19-inch aero wheels
- Model-specific rear bumper
- PHEV badging
- Extra panel hatch for AC and DC charging ports
- Discrete exhaust tips
- Follow Me Home headlights
- Hands-free electric power tailgate
- Electrical autofold heated side door mirror
Exterior colours for the Jaecoo J7 PHEV are Carbon Black, Moonlight Silver, and Khaki White – the latter limited to just 100 units in Malaysia before it is replaced with a two-tone Olive Grey exterior hue option.
Powering the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is Jaecoo’s ‘Super Hybrid System’, consisting of a fifth-generation 1.5-litre TGDi inline-four Deep Miller cycle engine paired to a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) with an integrated motor, and a 106-cell 18.3 kWh hybrid battery pack sourced from BYD’s Blade lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) battery technology. AC and DC charging is supported, the latter a unique feature for a plug-in hybrid model here in Malaysia.
- Engine: Fifth-generation 1.5-litre TGDi inline-four
- Transmission: Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT)
- Driveline: Front-wheel drive (FWD)
- Max output: 347 hp, 525 Nm
- Petrol engine output: 143 hp, 215 Nm
- Electric motor output: 204 hp, 310 Nm
- 0-100 km/h time: 8.5 seconds
- Top speed: 180 km/h
- AC charging: 6.6 kW (0%-100% in 3 hours)
- DC charging: 40 kW (30%-80% in 20 minutes)
Comparing it directly to the Jaecoo J7, the petrol-only version sports a larger 1.6-litre TGDi inline-four engine, which produces 197 hp and 290 Nm of torque. Furthermore, the petrol Jaecoo J7 also comes either in a FWD or all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrain configuration; the PHEV only gets FWD at launch.
As for performance, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV boasts a 0-100 km/h time of 8.5 seconds, compared to the 9.2 seconds for the J7 in FWD form, and 9.9 seconds for the AWD.

The Super Hybrid System’s pièce de résistance is its flexibility, allowing for both parallel and series hybrid configurations, as well as both pure ICE or pure electric modes.
As a result, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV boasts an impressive (and proven) range of 1,300 km (NEDC), of which 106 km (NEDC) can be achieved with pure electricity alone. The Jaecoo J7 PHEV is rated for a fuel consumption figure of 4.7L/100 km (NEDC).
Moving to the interior of the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, there are plenty of changes deviating from its ICE sibling, most notably the centre console up front. It now has a row of buttons for different PHEV controls and drive settings, which are two power modes, three driving modes, and three power-saving modes. Additionally, the gear lever is moved from the centre console to a stalk behind the steering wheel. Other observable aesthetic changes can be found in the reworked door cards and buttons.
