Thought bulky and rugged off-roaders weren’t popular? Well, think again, because Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has just announced a significant milestone: the delivery of the 500th GWM Tank 300 in Malaysia.
Car number 500 went to a lucky Ms Wong, who said “I first discovered the TANK 300 in China and was instantly captivated by its bold design and impressive capabilities. As soon as it launched in Malaysia, I knew I had to get one.”
The GWM Tank 300, priced at RM250,000, packs a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 220 hp and 380 Nm, along with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a part-time four-wheel drive system.
But it’s not just about off-road capability, the Tank 300 also boasts a luxurious interior with features like seat ventilation, twin 12.3-inch displays, and double-glazed glass for the windshield and front doors.

GWM Malaysia’s Managing Director, Cui Anqi, is excited about this milestone, saying, “This achievement highlights the trust and enthusiasm Malaysians have for our brand. We look forward to building on this momentum with our upcoming Tank lineup.”
So, what’s next for Tank lineup in Malaysia? Well, it looks like the GWM Tank 500 might soon be making its local debut. This SUV is even bigger than the Tank 300 and has a design inspired by the legendary Toyota Land Cruiser.
The Tank 500 has a few different engine options globally, from mild hybrids to plug-in hybrids (PHEV). GWM Malaysia hasn’t spilled the beans on which one we’ll get, but we’re guessing it’ll be the same hybrid setup they have in Thailand, which was also shown off at KLIMS 2024.
This setup combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 244 hp and 380 Nm with an electric motor delivering 106 hp and 268 Nm, giving a combined output of 350 hp and 616 Nm.
Celebrating the delivery milestone of the Tank 300, GWM Malaysia is now offering a lifetime engine and transmission warranty for all first-hand GWM Tank 300 owners. Previously, this warranty was only offered to the first 300 owners.
In addition, there’s also a complimentary five-year service package for new and prospective owners, “test drive and win” and “buy and win” campaigns, and even a GWM “iron cavalry” modification kit giveaway.
