Video: 2025 Jaecoo J7 PHEV – Singapore to Hat Yai without refuelling!

The last time our presenters tried to go from one end of the country to the other, they barely made it to the end goal of driving the entire length in just a single tank of gas.

Not known to give up, our very own Pan Eu Jin decided to do it again and join a convoy road trip with the Jaecoo J7 PHEVs organised by Jaecoo Malaysia. This time, he’s going the extra mile (or in this case, another 500 km more) to drive from Singapore to Hatyai in Thailand – all in a single tank of fuel!

Now, 1,400 km sounds like a stretch, but that is a challenge the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is more than capable enough to take head-on. And it’s all thanks to the J7 PHEV’s hybrid system that Jaecoo dubs the ‘Super Hybrid System’.

This hybrid system is made up of three parts: The fifth-generation 1.5-litre TGDi inline-four Miller cycle engine, a dedicated hybrid CVT gearbox with an integrated motor, and a 18.3 kWh hybrid battery pack.

Connected to all these parts is a front-wheel drive (FWD) drivetrain that puts down a total of 347 hp (255 kW) and 525 Nm of torque on the asphalt. Additionally, the car is also able to drive either on pure petrol or EV power alone, in addition to parallel and series hybrid configurations.

All of these culminate to a total range of 1,200 km in WLTP-rated range. However, Eu Jin’s J7 PHEV recorded a range of 1,427.5 km in a single tank without refuelling or recharging the battery! Better yet, while the pure electric range is rated at 90 km, Eu Jin did it at 108 km.

Throughout the entire trip, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV recorded an average fuel consumption 3.5 L/100 km, nearly halving its rated fuel consumption of 6.6 L/100 km.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV is set to launch this month with an estimated price of RM170,000, right after the monumental stunt that over-delivered its capabilities as a hybrid SUV.
