The Hyundai Staria, known for its unique and futuristic spaceship-like design, is already a head-turner. Now, it’s about to get even more interesting with an all-electric (EV) version reportedly in the works.
First reported by Carscoops, a prototype of the EV Hyundai Staria in a two-tone paint job was spotted in a South Korean parking lot. Images from the Korean forum Clien shows that the all-electric version looks almost identical to the standard Hyundai Staria, except for a teeny-tiny grille on the front, a charging port, and two small air vents on the front bumper.
The electric Staria is rumoured to have the same electric motor setup as the Hyundai ST1, an all-electric commercial vehicle based on the Staria. Powering the Hyundai ST1 is a single electric motor making 218 hp and 350 Nm.
For comparison, the 2.2-litre turbodiesel variant offered in Malaysia delivers 177 hp and 431 Nm – less power but more torque than the all-electric version.
The all-electric Hyundai Staria could also be based on an 800-volt architecture, which means super-fast charging and the ability to power other devices via vehicle-to-load (V2L). The battery pack for the EV Staria could be the 84 kWh pack used in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and the updated KIA EV6. Again, nothing is confirmed yet as of now.

We likely won’t see many changes on the inside, so the electric Hyundai Staria should still come equipped with the same digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment screen as its regular internal combustion sibling, but with EV-specific displays.
Production is reportedly set to start in mid-2026. Hyundai is mainly targeting European markets initially, but the company is also planning to sell it in Australia and Thailand, suggesting a right-hand drive version is in development. This raises an exciting possibility, will we see it gracing Malaysian roads in the future?
