Hyundai Staria Hybrid unveiled with 2024 update – 1.6L turbo HEV, 245hp

There’s a new 2024 Hyundai Staria update, and while nothing much has changed on the outside, the 2024 Hyundai Staria is now available with a 1.6L Hybrid powertrain. In Korea, Hyundai has already begun to take pre-orders for this eco-friendly version of the Staria.

So, what’s the deal with this new hybrid powertrain? Consisting of a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine and an electric drive system, the powertrain is capable of producing a maximum power of 245 hp and a maximum torque of 367 Nm. Just in case you were wondering, the 1.6-litre turbo engine by itself can produce 180 hp and 265 Nm. Hyundai says that the Staria Hybrid’s fuel efficiency is rated at 13 km/l.

The new hybrid powertrain for the Staria will be available in multiple guises of the van, including its workhorse Cargo version as well as its luxurious “Lounge” version. For the 2024 update, the “Lounge” variant gets some visual updates like black high-gloss wheels as standard.

While it may not really look like it on the outside, Hyundai has given the Staria some improvements with this 2024 update. Here’s an overview of what’s new:

  • USB-C ports
  • New touch-based air-conditioning controls
  • New wiper rain sensor
  • New 4th generation smart key shaped like Hyundai logo
  • New 2D aluminium for Hyundai Emblem
  • Front parking sensors are now standard
  • Reduced operating speed of power sliding doors
  • Lounge variant gets black high-gloss wheels
  • New LED lights for sun visors
  • New second-row walk-in switch for 7-seater model
  • New sliding bed for cargo model
  • New ‘congestion section specialized control’ which adjusts the shift pattern and engine start time strategically based on the congestion state

In terms of usability and convenience, new features that stand out would be the new touch-based air-conditioning controls, the new reduced speed of the power sliding doors, and the new USB-C ports. One intelligent improvement to the Staria would be the new ‘congestion section specialized control’. This feature adjusts the shift pattern and engine start time strategically based on the congestion state (with info from GPS), and it reduces unnecessary operations due to acceleration and deceleration.

In Malaysia, the pre-2024 update Hyundai Staria is available in three variants of the 10-seater configuration – Lite, Plus, and Max. Prices start from RM181,888 for the Lite variant and top off at RM211,888 for the Max variant. The Staria Premium seems to have been dropped from Hyundai Malaysia’s website.
