MG, the British historic carmaker made its return to the Malaysian market by launching two EVs, with one of them being the 2024 MG4 EV. MG Motor Malaysia is offering its new EV hatchback with four variants – the Standard, Lux, Lux Extended Range, and the range-topping XPower, prices for the MG4 EV range from RM103,999 to RM158,999.

Standard exterior equipment packed with the MG4 EV in Malaysia includes automatic projector LED headlights, LED taillights, and a body kit. More striking-looking design bits like the twin-aero rear spoiler and the LED taillight bar are reserved for the higher three variants.

Performance-wise, the top-spec MG4 EV is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup that pushes out 435 hp and 600 Nm, enabling it to sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. The remaining three variants sport single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) setups with different outputs.

The MG4 EV’s all-electric range also differs between each variant due to different battery sizes. The Lux Extended Range can travel the furthest at 520 km (WLTP) thanks to its 77 kWh battery pack.

MG4 EV XPower

When it comes to charging, all variants except for the Standard can be charged at a maximum AC rate of 11 kW, while the latter only accepts up to 7 kW AC. 150 kW DC charging is available as standard across the range.

Inside, standard interior equipment included with the MG4 EV in Malaysia consists of a 7-inch digital instrument display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and a leather-wrapped telescopic steering wheel. The Standard variant gets fabric seats, while the Lux and XPower variants get semi-leather and Alcantara seats respectively.

In terms of safety, the Malaysian-spec MG4 EV gets some active safety features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Traffic Jam Assist (TJA). The top three variants all get the full advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite.
