Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift debuts with new N Line variant, larger 84 kWh battery

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 all-electric SUV has just received a facelift update. It features not just cosmetic enhancements, but also some performance upgrades, as well as a new sportier variant.

On the outside, the facelifted Hyundai Ioniq 5 now features restyled front and rear bumpers, along with a redesigned V-shape garnish, giving the Ioniq 5 a sportier appearance. As a result, the facelifted EV SUV is now 20 mm longer than before. Its width, height, and wheelbase length all remain unchanged.

For better aerodynamic performance, the Ioniq 5’s rear spoiler has been extended by 50 mm. The Korean all-electric SUV now boasts new aerodynamic wheels too.

Earlier in 2022, the Ioniq 5 received an update, increasing the capacity of its battery pack from 72.6 kWh to 77.4 kWh. Now with the latest facelift exercise, the Ioniq 5’s battery capacity has been further upgraded to 84.0 kWh, which in turn increases its all-electric range, although the Korean carmaker didn’t specify by how much.

The Malaysian market Ioniq 5 is still powered by the smaller capacity 72.6 kWh battery with the top-of-the-line Max variant. The Lite and Plus variants on the other hand each get a 58 kWh battery pack instead.

Hyundai has also enhanced the Ioniq 5’s riding comfort by including a shock absorber that helps to alleviate vibrations from the road. The rigidity of the cowl crossbar has also been increased to reduce vibrations in the steering wheel.

Reinforcements at the rear wheel and lower part of the vehicle have been doubled, resulting in improved stability and agility. The stiffness of the Ioniq 5’s vehicle body has been strengthened to reduce low-frequency booming noise, and motor noise control has been optimized. There is also additional sound insulation for the rear wheel motor which enhances the Ioniq 5’s overall quietness.

Moving inside, the upper part of the centre console, which Hyundai dubs the “Universal Island”, now features a physical button that can operate frequently used functions. This includes functions such as the first-row heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, and parking assist function. Also, the wireless charging pad has been relocated to a higher position, enhancing its usability.

The facelifted Hyundai Ioniq 5 now sports a new steering wheel design which comes with interactive pixel lights. Hyundai also mentioned that the arrangement of infotainment and air conditioning controls has been improved to enhance operational convenience. At the centre, the touchscreen infotainment display now runs on the Korean marque’s next-generation infotainment system known as the connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC).

Safety-wise, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift now comes with a list of new features. This includes the Hands-On Detection (HOD) steering wheel, Lane Keeping Assist 2 (LKA 2), Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2), and Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-F/S/R).

Hyundai has also listened to its customers’ feedback and has equipped the Ioniq 5 with some features such as the Intelligent Front-Lighting System (IFS), Digital Key 2, Built-In Cam 2, and second-row seat remote folding. Aside from active safety features, the Ioniq 5’s passive safety has also been enhanced, where its body, front, and rear doors and B-pillar parts have been reinforced to improve side collision protection.

With this latest update, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 lineup has welcomed a new variant, known as the Ioniq 5 N Line. It is positioned between the regular Ioniq 5 and the performance-oriented Ioniq 5 N.

For a sporty appearance, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line is fitted with unique bumpers, stylish side skirts, and a set of dedicated 20-inch aluminium wheels. Inside, the Ioniq 5 N Line comes with an N Line steering wheel and dashboard, N Line exclusive metal pedals, a black headliner, dedicated sport seats with the N logo, red contrast stitching, and two seat covering options.

The facelifted Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 5 N Line will become available in Korea starting this month (March 2024). The company also plans to gradually introduce them to global markets throughout the year.

Closer to home, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is offered in three variants, namely the Lite, Plus, and Max, and is priced from RM207,808 onwards. Both the Lite and Plus variants are powered by a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup, pushing out 170 hp and 350 Nm. The top-spec Max variant on the other hand sports a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup, delivering 305 hp and 605 Nm to all four wheels.
