These Hyundai Ioniq 5 EVs travelled from Singapore to Vietnam in 11 days – only RM537 in charging fees!

Hyundai recently concluded its “Ioniq 5 ASEAN Tour” convoy, where it saw a total of five Ioniq 5 EVs – two manufactured in Indonesia and three in Singapore – travel across five countries in 11 days.

The convoy was flagged off in Singapore, before making its way through Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and finally finishing in Vietnam. With 3,197 km on the odometer, Hyundai says that the trip was an “EV tour featuring the most visited countries in Southeast Asia”.

The event, themed ‘Go Far with Zero Worries’, was designed as a “dynamic proving ground” for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 to showcase its reliability, eco-friendliness, and long-distance capabilities, the latter proved to be important in the final leg of the journey from Cambodia to Vietnam, where EV chargers were limited.

But as a surprise to even the organisers, the Ioniq 5 also remained cost-efficient across the entire trip – costing only USD116 (approx. RM537) in charging fees per car, which Hyundai says is “approximately two times more cost-efficient in comparison to an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle”.

Speaking at the finishing line, Hyundai Motor ASEAN HQ president, Youngtack Lee, said, “Our dedication to making electric vehicles more accessible as the definitive clean mobility solution of tomorrow has taken a giant leap forward.

“Witnessing the tremendous success and excitement generated by the Ioniq 5 ASEAN Tour, we are propelled to intensify our comprehensive innovation aimed at fortifying the EV infrastructure and ecosystem across the region.”
