Toyota Corolla Cross facelift launching soon in Thailand – to get EPB & new 2.0L engine?

Toyota Thailand has put out a teaser video for the Toyota Corolla Cross facelift and has set the SUV’s launch date on February 8, 2024. Originally launched in the Land of Smiles in 2020, the upcoming Corolla Cross facelift will not only come with a new face but could also feature a larger capacity engine.

Although not officially confirmed, certain Thai media outlets are speculating that the Toyota Corolla Cross facelifted could come with the brand’s 2.0-litre inline-4 naturally-aspirated Dynamic Force engine, replacing the existing 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated mill. If the engine is to be featured in the Corolla Cross facelift, it should have power output figures similar to the one found under the hood of the American market model, pushing 171 hp (metric) and 203 Nm to the front wheels.

Currently, the Toyota Corolla Cross sold in Thailand and Malaysia can be had with a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine. The mill is mated to a CVT gearbox, resulting in a total of 139 hp (metric) and 172 Nm sent to the front wheels.

Alongside the naturally aspirated engine is the 1.8-litre mild hybrid powertrain, which can be expected to continue to be offered with the facelift exercise. Also paired with an E-CVT gearbox, the hybrid system puts out 122 hp (metric) to the front wheels.

Besides the new engine, the upcoming Toyota Corolla Cross facelift is also expected to (finally) be equipped with an electric parking brake (EPB), as well as the auto brake hold function, replacing the foot brake that is available with the current Corolla Cross. Like the 2.0-litre Dynamic Force engine, the inclusion of the EPB isn’t confirmed either.

In Malaysia, the locally assembled (CKD) Toyota Corolla Cross is available in four variants, namely the 1.8 G, the 1.8 V, the Hybrid, and the 1.8 GR Sport. Prices for the SUV start from RM130,900 and top out at RM146,000 (OTR, without insurance).
