Video: 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport – RM4.6k more than 1.8V, sports suspension and more!

UMW Toyota Motor has launched the new Corolla Cross GR Sport starting from RM142,000 and it’s based on the non-hybrid 1.8V variant. For perspective, the Corolla Cross GR Sport costs RM4,600 more than the 1.8V and is priced similarly to the Corolla Cross Hybrid. So for the extra ringgits, what are you getting?

As it turns out, quite a fair bit. You get sportier front and rear bumpers, a more aggressive front grille, GR Sport wheels, GR badging and clear lenses for the rear lamp. Exclusively to the GR Sport model is a two-tone exterior where the black side mirrors, roof and rear spoiler are paired with either Platinum White Pearl, Nebula Blue Metallic and Red Mica Metallic colour options.

On the inside, GR Sport items include a push-start button with the GR logo, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever with red stitching, a GR logo embossed on the seats with red stitching and GR design carpets.

As it is based on the 1.8V, the Corolla Cross GR Sport produces 139 hp and 172 Nm to drive the front wheels with a seven-speed CVT gearbox with sequential shiftmatic. It may not have more horsepower or torque but it does come with significant upgrades elsewhere.

The GR Sport stands out with a sports ECU for the electronic power steering, specially-tuned front and rear sports suspension and a performance brace. All this helps improve the Corolla Cross’ agility, handling and stability. What do you think about all those additions for a mere RM4,600 extra? Is the new GR Sport Corolla Cross worth the money?
