Malaysia-bound Toyota Alphard shown at GIIAS 2023: Looks & feels more impressive than on paper

Since the opening of the all-new Toyota Alphard and Vellfire’s order books early last month, demand for the boss carriers has been a little high to the extent of being sold out throughout Malaysia. There is a 1-year waiting period for the cars, and there are no display units available in Toyota dealers for you to see and touch either. But not to worry, we’ve got you covered as the all-new Alphard is currently present in the flesh over at Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2023, and here are live photos of the car before you get to see it.

The Toyota Alphard offered here in Indonesia is specifically the 2.5-litre hybrid variant, as compared to the 2.4-litre turbocharged Executive Lounge we will be getting back in Malaysia. And like in the past, the all-new Alphard continues to be the more “executive” looking model, while the Vellfire stays as an option for those who prefer a sportier exterior.

The all-new Alphard is fitted with a grille made up of black and chrome plates. There are also LED headlamps alongside dashed-patterned LED DRLs, alongside LED tail lamps at the back.

Inside, the fourth-generation Toyota Alphard has had its interior upgraded in terms of technology and luxury, as compared to its predecessor. This includes equipment such as a digital instrument cluster, a central display, a touch-based climate control, as well as an electronic parking brake that comes with an auto brake hold function.

There are a total of six seats in the all-new Alphard, arranged in a 2-2-2 layout, alongside a pair of powered captain seats in the second row. Since we got the Executive Lounge variant of the Alphard in Malaysia, the luxury MPV comes with luxurious items such as a retractable table, captain seats that come with heating and ventilating functions, a detachable control panel that enables occupants in the car to control media playback, climate control settings, and also the sunshade.

Toyota has also made the all-new Alphard even more spacious than before. This is done by increasing the space between the front and second-row seats, as well as between the second-and third-row seats, by 5 mm and 10 mm respectively.

Interior fixtures such as lighting, assorted switches, and aircon vents in the centre of the ceiling have been added as well. These fixtures were all located along both sides of the ceiling in the previous gen luxury MPVs.

To make the bosses’ journeys even more comfortable when being chauffeured, the all-new Alphard now features a moonroof that comes with independently operable sunshades on the left and right, together with built-in pull-down side sunshades. This gives occupants on both sides freedom on whether why want to see the sky or block out the sunlight, for instance.

Powering the all-new Toyota Alphard in Indonesia is Toyota’s series-parallel hybrid system. This system consists of a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder Dynamic Force engine which alone produces 190 hp (metric) and 236 Nm, as well as a 5 Nm electric motor that puts out 182 hp (metric) and 270 Nm by itself. Combined, the system output is rated at 250 hp (metric).

Mated to the hybrid system is an E-CVT, allowing power to be sent to either the front wheels only or all four wheels via the marque’s hybrid E-Four AWD System, contributing to a system output of 250 hp (metric). The rear wheels also feature an extra 4 Nm electric motor that pushes out 54 hp (metric) and 121 Nm whenever needed.

Under the hood of the Toyota Alphard in Malaysia on the other hand is a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a Super CVT-i gearbox. This contributes to a total of 279 hp (metric) and 430 Nm.

There is also a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol that powers the Malaysian-spec Vellfire. This mill is paired with a Super CVT-i gearbox which results in a total of 182 hp (metric) and 235 Nm.

Safety-wise, the all-new fourth-generation Toyota Alphard is equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense suite. The suite features safety features such as proactive driving assist & intra-lane steering assist, as well as deceleration assist when turning at intersections.

The Executive Lounge hybrid variants also come standard with the Toyota Temmate package, which includes advanced park and remote park functions. Additionally, all Executive Lounge variants are also packed with an advanced driving system, which is designed to help reduce driver fatigue in congested traffic.

We believe the luxurious and high-tech features the all-new Toyota Alphard bring this time should be enough to impress all the bosses out there, or is this still not up to your tastes? Let us know in the comments below.
