Late last year, the Volvo XC60 was given its 2023 model update in Malaysia. The luxury SUV was offered in two variants, and we are lucky enough to have been able to borrow the top-spec Recharge T8 Ultimate. Retailing at RM355,888 (OTR, without insurance), the Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate essentially replaces the Recharge T8 Inscription Plus variant and costs RM2,000 more too.

Outside, the 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate gets the brand’s sportier R-Design exterior package, instead of the Inscription look. This package includes design elements such as the front bumper’s “X-Wing” look, as well as a square-mush grille insert.

Other standard equipment that comes with the XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate is the full LED headlights which include both Active High Beam and active bending lights functions. The SUV is also fitted with a set of 19-inch five-double spoke black diamond-cit wheels.

Customers are also given four colour choices for the exterior of their XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate. This includes Crystal White, Onyx Black, Fusion Red, and Bright Dusk.

Powering the 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup consisting of a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine that is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, as well as a rear electric motor. The engine itself makes 317 hp (metric) and 400 Nm, while the electric motor can produce up to 145 hp and 309 Nm. Powering the rear electric motor is an 18.8 kWh battery, giving the SUV an electric-only range of 81 km.

With power sent to all four wheels via the e-AWD system, the XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate’s total output is rated at 462 hp (metric) and 709 Nm. The century sprint can be done in under 4.8 seconds, while its top speed is rated at 180 km/h, which is intentionally capped by Volvo to reduce the number of fatalities involving its vehicles.

Moving inside, you get an infotainment system that is powered by the Android Automotive OS via a nine-inch touchscreen. The Android Automotive OS also supports Waze navigation without needing a phone.

The 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate is fitted with a 1,410 watts Bowers & Wilkins 15-speaker sound system, and also a head-up display. Dual-zone climate control, powered front seats with memory function, as well as the iconic Orrefors crystal gear selector, are also included with the XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate.

In the safety department, the 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate is equipped with Volvo’s Intellisafe ADAS suite. This includes features such as Pilot Assist Level 2 Semiautonomous driving, lane keep assist (LKA), blind spot monitoring (BSM) with steering assist, run-off road mitigation, as well as a 360-degree camera system. Collision avoidance with pedestrian, cyclist, and large animal detection with steering support and braking, front and rear collision warning and mitigation support, and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA) with braking are also included with the 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate.

The 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge T8 Ultimate comes with a standard five-year, unlimited mileage warranty. An eight-year, 160,000 km warranty for the PHEV battery is also included with the retail price.
