Video: 2023 Toyota GR86 now in Malaysia – back-to-basics sports car, from RM295k

The highly-awaited 2023 Toyota GR86 has finally made its way here into Malaysia, and as you can probably tell, we’re very, very excited. The all-new Hachiroku is available in both manual and automatic options, with pricing starting at RM295,000 for the “correct” choice.

Aside from the difference in transmission, though, the rest of the kit is largely identical between the two. On the outside, you get fully-LED lighting both front and rear, alongside black 18-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin PS4 tyres, and dual exhaust tailpipe exits at the back.

Performance wise, the Toyota GR86 is powered by a 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated boxer engine, making 237 hp and 250 Nm. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via the aforementioned six-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox with a short-throw shifter, and a limited-slip differential on the rear axle.

With the newfound power, over its predecessor, the new Toyota GR86 sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds – some one second quicker than the Toyota 86.

The automatic variant does get a leg up in terms of safety equipment, however, as it’s the only one that comes with advanced driver assist features, among them autonomous emergency braking (front and rear), adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, alongside the seven airbags.
