Naza Italia has officially unveiled the 2023 Maserati Levante GT Hybrid here in Malaysia. The new hybrid SUV will join the Ghibli Hybrid as the two electrified Maserati offerings here on our shores, and is priced from RM738,000 on-the-road, without insurance, and before options.

The highlight of the new 2023 Maserati Levante GT Hybrid is, of course, the electrified powertrain underneath its bonnet. Although, unlike what its name suggests, the mill is more appropriately categorised as a mild-hybrid mill, with a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine underneath the bonnet paired to 48V Belt Starter Generator (BSG), as well as an e-Booster electric supercharger.

Together, the powertrain makes a combined 330 hp and 450 Nm, which is enough for a century sprint in 6.0 seconds, and a top speed of 245 km/h. Power is sent to all four wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox and Maserati’s Q4 all-wheel drive system, with a limited-slip differential on the rear axle.

The 48 volt system and e-Booster works together as a torque-infill device, providing an extra boost of power before the turbocharger spools up to effective speeds. Overall, Maserati says that the new hybrid powertrain “combines the smoothness of a six-cylinder engine with the low rev count of a diesel engine”.

The output figures of the hybrid powertrain are also fairly similar to the 350 hp 3.0 V6 biturbo engine, but it weighs some 20 kg lighter. With a small battery fitted at the rear, Maserati says that the new hybrid powertrain improves on the Levante’s 50:50 weight distribution, making the GT Hybrid “even more manageable and fun to drive” – not to mention its 20% better fuel efficiency.
