Not only did the Ora Good Cat score a maximum five stars in the Euro NCAP, it was also named “best-in-class” in the Small Family Car Category of the European safety assessment last year, beating out the likes of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Honda Civic.
Marketed as the Funky Cat in the UK, the Ora EV hatchback scored 92% in adult occupant protection, 83% in child occupant protection, 74% on pedestrian protection, and 93% on safety assist system tests – the latter the highest amongst its competitors in the segment.
As standard, the UK-specification Ora Good Cat comes equipped with adaptive cruise control with lane centring functionality, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert with autonomous braking, lane change assist, blind spot detection, and traffic sign recognition.
Back home here in Malaysia, the Ora Good Cat made its debut in November last year with two variants on offer: 400 Pro and 500 Ultra. The numbers are indicative of their fully electric driving range based on the more forgiving NEDC test cycle.
In terms of powertrain, however, both are essentially identical – driving the front wheels is a single electric motor making 105 kW (143 hp) and 210 Nm of torque, for a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 7.9 seconds.

Safety wise, both variants of the Ora Good Cat comes equipped with six airbags as standard, alongside a set of advanced driver assistance features consisting of adaptive cruise control with intelligent turning and traffic jam assist, autonomous emergency braking with intersection support, lane keeping and lane centring assist, and a “wisdom dodge” system.
The range-topping 500 Ultra takes it up a notch with extra creature comfort safety and convenience features, including additional front parking sensors, a “full-auto” integrated parking system, auto-reversing assistant, lane-change assist, emergency lane keeping, blind-spot detection, and rear-cross traffic alert and braking.
The Ora Good Cat was not the only Chinese model that made it to the top of the list in last year’s Euro NCAP ratings. The Wey Coffee 01, also from Great Wall Motors, was also named best-in-class in the Large Off-Roader category in 2022.
Other models in the best-in-class list include the Hyundai Ioniq 6 in the Large Family Car category, Tesla Model S for the Executive Car category, and Model Y for the Small Off-Roader respectively.
