Tesla Model Y launched in Thailand – from RM246k, up to 542 km range

One of the two cars that spearhead Tesla’s entry into the Thailand market is the Tesla Model Y, now offered in three variants in the land of smiles. Prices start at 1,959,000 baht (approx. RM246,151), and the Tesla Model Y is fully imported (CBU) from China.

Mirroring the Tesla Model 3 (which has also just been launched in Thailand), the three variants of the Tesla Model Y are as such:

  • Single Motor RWD – 1,959,000 baht (approx. RM246,151)
  • Dual Motor Long Range AWD – 2,259,000 baht (approx. RM283,846)
  • Dual Motor Performance AWD – 2,509,000 baht (approx. RM315,258)

Essentially a high-riding tesla Model 3 with 5-doors, bigger wheels, and a taller roof, the Tesla Model Y can sometimes be hard to differentiate from its sedan counterpart. It measures 4,751 mm long, 1,921 mm wide, and 1,624 mm tall. With a wheelbase measuring 2,890 mm, it is about the size of a BMW X3 or a Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Tesla Model Y Single Motor RWD

As an entry-level option, the Single Motor RWD is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that makes 347 hp (metric) and 420 Nm. The Single Motor RWD accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 217 km/h.

A 57.5-kWh battery gives the Single Motor RWD an electric range of 455 km (WLTP). Charging can be done at a maximum rate of 11 kW for AC charging and 170 kW for DC fast charging.

Tesla Model Y Dual Motor Long Range AWD

In the middle of the variant hierarchy is the Dual Motor Long Range AWD that has a combined system output of 514 hp (metric) and 493 Nm. The mid-range Model Y does the century sprint in 5.0 seconds and has a top speed of 217 km/h.

Storing energy in the Long Range Model Y is a 75-kWh battery pack that provides 542 km of range (WLTP). AC charging can be done at a maximum rate of 11 kW while DC fast charging is capped at 250 kW.

Tesla Model Y Dual Motor Performance RWD

The most powerful version of the Model Y is the Performance model which makes a total of 534 hp (metric) and 660 Nm. It launches from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.

Housing the same 75-kWh battery pack as the Long Range Model Y, the electric range is a little less at 514 km (WLTP). Like the Long Range, the Performance model can handle 11-kW AC charging and 250-kW DC fast charging.

Over the Long Range Model Y, the Performance Model Y adds on 21-inch alloy wheels with Uberturbine wheel design, a performance brake system, a carbon fibre rear spoiler, and aluminium alloy foot pedals. For better handling, the Performance model even throws in a set of lowered suspension.

Mirroring the Model 3’s warranty package, the Tesla Model Y provides a 4-year/80,000 km general warranty as standard. The Single Motor RWD gets an 8-year/160,000 km battery and drive system warranty, while the Dual Motor Long Range AWD and Dual Motor Performance AWD both get an 8-year/192,000 km battery and drive system warranty.
