Toyota GR Yaris gets Kinto factory tune in Japan, extra 20 Nm of torque and personalised performance!

Toyota announced today that the standard GR Yaris is joining its Kinto Factory line-up, which means the factory tune-up, previously available exclusively to the GR Yaris Morizo Selection, is also now available on the standard car. Well, in Japan at least.

The Kinto Factory line-up enables the cars to “evolve” throughout its lifecycle. Currently, Toyota offers the “GR Yaris Performance Software 2.0” upgrade for the rabid hot hatch, which increases torque output from 370 Nm up to 390 Nm.

Toyota adds that the software improves the torque delivery curve, too, not just the peak figure. The maximum torque is boosted between 3,200 and 4,000 rpm, which the carmaker says provides a more “relaxed” acceleration.

If “relaxed” isn’t what you’re looking for, Toyota is also offering customers the ability to personalise their cars’ performance – including throttle response, AWD torque distribution, and even steering assist response – according to their tastes.

And for a little more money, Toyota can even help you tune your car using driving data analysis. For this, Toyota will gather data from having the driver drive on a designated track, with the information then sent to a GR Garage for analysis to pick out the best settings for all 27 of the input configurations.

The first customisation option costs JPY8,800 (approx. RM290), but is also included in the GR Yaris Performance Software 2.0 update package, which costs JPY141,000 (approx. RM4,620). As for the data-based customisation, that’ll be a JPY15,000 (approx RM490) upgrade.

The upgrade package is unfortunately not available here in Malaysia, but at least the base car is already quite a hoot to drive – especially out on the track. The Toyota GR Yaris is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder mill, which in Malaysia makes a pretty mind-boggling 261 hp and 360 Nm of torque.
