2022 Subaru WRX and WRX Wagon launched in Thailand, offered with six-speed manual!

TC Subaru Thailand has just officially welcomed the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX and WRX Wagon in the Kingdom, making it the second nation in the region (after the Philippines) to receive the second-generation model. Jealous? Don’t be, because the two models are also slated to be launched here in Malaysia by the end of this year, so treat this as a preview of what we might be getting soon!

The Subaru WRX needs no introduction. Unveiled globally back in September 2021, the second-generation model is now underpinned by the Subaru Global Platform. The WRX Wagon, meanwhile, is essentially the second-generation Subaru Levorg, but with the WRX’s powertrain stuffed underneath its bonnet.

On the topic of powertrain, both models are now powered by a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine, which makes 275 hp and 350 Nm in the Thailand-spec cars. The cars are all-wheel drive as standard, equipped with Subaru’s famed Symmetrical AWD system, and buyers can choose between a six-speed manual and a “Subaru Performance” CVT transmission (CVT only on the WRX Wagon).

In terms of standard equipment, both the Subaru WRX and WRX Wagon in Thailand are fairly similarly equipped, with standard equipment including LED headlights and tail-lights, 18-inch wheels, an 11.6-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment display (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), analogue instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch multi-info display, reverse camera, and seven airbags.

The CVT variants, including the WRX Wagon, adds on gearshift paddles, an eight-way powered driver’s seat with memory function, electronic parking brake, the SI-Drive transmission mode selector, as well as Subaru’s EyeSight advanced driver assistance features. The latter includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic high beam, front vehicle departure alert, as well as a blind spot monitor.

Pricing for the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX in Thailand starts at THB2,999,000 (approx. RM374k) for the manual variant, moving up to THB3,099,000 (approx. RM386k) for the CVT-equipped WRX. The WRX Wagon meanwhile is priced at THB2,959,000 (approx. RM369k) in the kingdom of smiles.
