Hyundai Sime Darby Motors has launched the new fully electric IONIQ 5 with three variants available. The Lite starts from RM199,888, Plus from RM229,888 and the Max from RM259,888. All variants come with a 2-year/50,000 km warranty, while the batteries are back by an 8-year/160,000 km warranty.
Having seen the car in person, it’s safe to say that the IONIQ 5 is the most complete, feature-packed electric we’ve seen so far. In terms of features, it’s probably even more impressive than the Mini Electric and the Porsche Taycan!
You get leg rests for the front seats, a movable ‘island’ (centre console), reclinable rear seats, front and rear boots, comprehensive safety features, and the most unique of all, charging points for your electronics under the seat and outside of the car!
In terms of size, the IONIQ 5 may look like a regular hatchback but in reality, it’s anything but one. It shares the same wheelbase the enormous Hyundai Palisade and is almost as long as the BMW 7 series!
The most powerful ‘Max’ variant produces 305 hp and 605 Nm with an electric motor in the front and back, driving all four wheels. 0 to 100 km/h is sorted in just 5.2 seconds. The top speed for all variants is limited to just 185 km/h.
The Lite and Plus are fitted with a 58 kWh lithium-ion battery, while the Max gets a larger 72.6 kWh battery. As such the Max offers up to 430 km of electric driving range while the Lite and Plus will return up to 384 km.
Using a Type 2 AC (11kW) charger, the IONIQ 5 can be charged from 0 to 100% in just 5 hours. With the quicker DC charger, the IONIQ 5 can be charged up to 80% in just 18 minutes. Find out more in the video!
