UMW Toyota kicks off 2022 with 7,528 units sold in January, 96% more than Jan ’21!

Hot off the press from reclaiming the No. 1 non-national brand title in Malaysia after six years as runner-up, UMW Toyota Motor continued its momentum by kicking off 2022 with another solid sales performance in the month of January. The company sold a total of 7,528 units between its Toyota and Lexus brands, which represents a whopping 96% increase over the same period last year (3,845 units).

Among them, the Vios reigns as the bestselling Toyota passenger car in the line-up, accounting for 28% of the company’s total sales this month. The Hilux was also a huge contributor to the brand’s January sales performance, accounting for 38% of the total – although the Hilux is classified under the commercial vehicles segment.

“We are thankful for the government’s decision to extend the Sales and Service Tax (SST) exemption incentives for passenger vehicles until 30 June 2022, said UMW Toyota Motor President, Ravindran K. “This has greatly helped automotive players like us to recover from the impact of the pandemic during the last two years.”

“We also encourage Toyota fans to take advantage of the extended tax exemption to purchase their dream car, coupled with the value for money deals UMW Toyota Motor is offering such as the ongoing Stay Ahead sales campaign to enjoy the best savings during this
period,” he added.

The ‘Stay Ahead’ campaign is offering savings of up to RM4,500, with the Toyota Vios starting from RM540 a month (RM2,216 SST savings), and RM493 a month for the Yaris (RM2,192 SST savings).

On the recently-unveiled Toyota Cross Hybrid, Toyota said that more than 40% of the total sales of the Corolla Cross was for the aforementioned Hybrid variant. However, it remains to be seen if the company can maintain the momentum going forward.

The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, priced at RM136,550, is powered by the fourth-generation Toyota Hybrid Electric System consisting of a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder VVT-i engine and an electric motor, making a total system output of 122 hp.

Included in the price is a five-year unlimited-mileage factory warranty, on top of a separate eight-year unlimited mileage warranty for the hybrid battery pack, inverter and Power Management Control Unit, with an option for two additional years of coverage.

Aside from sales, UMW Toyota also partnered with Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor in January to extend a helping hand to Malaysians affected by the flood. Through its ‘Back On Your Feet’ Programme, the company contributed RM10,000 to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Lui for flood damage repairs, while also donating essential home appliances such as rice cookers, kettles, and gas stoves to the affected community in Sungai Lui.

“UMW Toyota Motor endeavours to propel society forward by empowering people beyond the road. We are glad to have been given the opportunity to partner with Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor to give back to the community we operate in and help them get back on their feet during these trying times,” added Ravindran K.
