Toyota to showcase fully tuned GR Yaris and new GT3 Concept at TAS 2022

Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) has finally confirmed the arrival of the much-rumoured souped-up Toyota GR Yaris and from the teaser image, it does look menacing! The motorsports arm of Toyota will officially reveal the model and more at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) 2022.

This year’s exhibition will also feature the world premiere of the GR GT3 Concept, a racing-dedicated concept car that incorporates the knowledge and refined technologies TGR has gained in the field of motorsports.

The GR GT3 Concept is a bit of a shocker, as both the front and rear designs do not have any resemblance to the Toyota GR Supra that was originally earmarked for global FIA GT3 racing. In fact, the swooping tail heavily reminds us of the Mercedes AMG GT sports car. All GT3 racing cars are modified racing versions of their road-going counterparts, as such, is Toyota previewing a new sports car via this GT3 Concept?

The Toyota GR Yaris has won many praises. We took it to Sepang track with five other big names (and horsepower) and still received everyone’s approval for ABC2021

Meanwhile, the fully tuned Toyota GR Yaris looks set to be fitted with a very prominent rear spoiler with swan-neck mounting and what seems to be a carbon-fibre bonnet with a ventilation outlet. Toyota will enter the GR Yaris from this year’s World Rally Championship (WRC) which also debuts the hybrid powertrain system in the Rally1 category.

Apart from these new vehicles as well as the WEC Championship winning GR010 Hybrid machine, Toyota Gazoo Racing will also display some parts from the 2022 line-up of GR Heritage Parts plus the usual range of Super GT’s GT500 machines. The TAS 2022 will run from 14th to 16th January.
