Ford Ranger Splash makes a return to the US

Ford has brought back the classic and much-loved Splash package for the Ranger. The yellow paintwork with contrasting black decals was popular in the 90s where pick-ups were rapidly moving from being a commercial workhorse to a lifestyle and recreational vehicle portraying an active image with decent refinement.

The new Ford Ranger Splash package is however only limited to the USA for now. Coming in two styles, the Splash adds matte black finishing on the 18-inch rims, orange grille nostrils with black surround and gloss black accents on the bumpers, fender vents, side mirrors and wheel arch extensions.

The Splash Limited Edition meanwhile is a short run of a few hundred units in one-time-only colour hues while keeping the same matte black finished rims. Ford says the Splash Snow Edition kicks off the first batch of the limited-run variant which will have a colour and theme refresh cycle every few months.

Inside, contrasting stitching in orange is applied on key areas such as the dashboard, steering wheel, shift lever and hand brake lever- a theme lifted directly from the Wildtrak variant here in ASEAN. The seats meanwhile get a combination of carbon grain with tuxedo stripes pattern with orange stitching.

Accessories and stickers can only do so much. Check out our review of the Ford Ranger Raptor with serious performance credentials plus refinement!

Locally, Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) offered a very limited edition Ford Ranger Splash but in the polar opposite of colour scheme – black with decals lined with fluorescent yellow. Priced at RM 138,888, only 19 units of the Ford Ranger Splash was exclusively on offer through e-commerce giant Lazada.

With sales of the all-new Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi Triton getting stronger, it won’t be a surprise to see one final variant of the Ford Ranger T6-generation being offered before the new model (which is in partnership with Volkswagen) is introduced.

Available in XL, XLT and Wildtrak variants in automatic or manual transmissions, the Ford Ranger in Malaysia is priced from RM97,388 to RM152,388. The Ranger Raptor is meanwhile priced from RM210,888.

We wonder if this Ativa owner had the “Lagi Power Lagi Best” yellow Myvi 1.5 previously. Sure looks good in this colour scheme!
