All 19 units of Ford Ranger Splash pre-booked before Lazada’s 11.11 shopping festival

Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC) today announced that all 19 units of the limited edition Ford Ranger Splash had been pre-booked ahead of Lazada’s 11.11 shopping festival.

SDAC says that the success of this collaboration with Lazada demonstrates that the Malaysian consumers have fully embraced eCommerce. SDAC Managing Director, Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz said “We believe that customers are looking for unique experiences and exclusivity in their
vehicles.”

The online sales event also marked two milestones in the local automotive industry, claims SDAC. The Ford Ranger Splash is the first pick-up truck to be sold through eCommerce, as well as the first vehicle to be sold via “Chup Dulu” – a promotional mechanism allowing buyers to reserve their product ahead of the shopping festival.

Based on the Ranger XLT Plus, the Ford Ranger Splash is only available exclusively at the Ford Official Store on LazMall. The limited edition pick-up truck features an all-black exterior, contrasted by fluorescent “Ranger Splash” decals on each side.

Ford also equipped the Ranger Splash with several exclusive goodies, including matte black front kangaroo bar, sports bar, built-in toll reader and a 360-degree Around View Monitor Camera.

Under the hood, the Ranger Sport is powered by a 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel engine, generating 180 hp and 420 Nm of torque. The powerplant is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Priced at RM138,888, customers only had to pay a deposit of RM139 to secure the booking. Once the booking is secured, customers will then have to pay the remainder of the booking fee (RM1,250) during the 11.11 shopping festival.

After the payment of booking fee, buyers will then be contacted by a SDAC representative to complete the purchase. Although sold through an online platform, the Ford Ranger Splash will still come with a three-year/100,000 km warranty and five-year/100,000 km free maintenance package.

Ford is not the first brand to experiment with online sales. Previously, Volkswagen has also utilised Lazada’s online marketplace for the limited edition Volkswagen Beetle and Polo Black and White Edition.

So far, all of the online-only specials have been met with reassuring success. With the Ford Ranger Splash adding to the list, are we going to start seeing cars being sold through online avenues, rather than just one-off specials?
