Lexus will soon release a new range of F Sport vehicles, with its largest sales region, the US, releasing a couple of teaser images.
Automotive news portals suggest that with the photo of the new 2020 IS sedan, Lexus is planning to offer the IS 500 F Sport. The company has also filed a trademark of ‘IS 500’ in the US a few months back.
Currently, the F Sport variant is offered on all Lexus sedans and SUV models except the LX 570.
The latest 2020 IS sedan has a IS 350 F Sport variant that is installed with a 311 horsepower naturally aspirated V6 engine. The ‘500’ engine nomenclature is currently used in the LS limousine and LC coupe and both are incredibly different in power delivery.
The LS 500 is fitted with a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine delivering 415 hp and 600 Nm of torque. The performance and emotionally charged LC 500 sports car meanwhile has a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine with 470 hp and 540 Nm of torque.
We will just need to wait for a few more hours for Lexus to reveal the new range of F Sport vehicles.
In the Lexus brand, the F Sport variant is the sportier flavour, akin to BMW’s M Sport, Mercedes-Benz’ AMG Line and Audi’s S-Line. F Sport variants feature more aggressive front and rear bumpers, rim design, and added black highlights on the exterior.
The interior meanwhile has a unique steering wheel, increased content in the driver’s multi-information display as well as specific seat and trim finishes. The suspension tuning for F Sport variants is also be tweaked for a reduced body roll and better overall body control.
Vehicles with the full-fledged performance F build are the IS F, GS F and the RC F. All are equipped with a melodic 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, multi-piston high-performance brakes, aggressive suspension and drivetrain calibration as well as the use of carbon fibre for weight reduction.
As such, they are competing directly with the BMW M, Mercedes-AMG and Audi RS models from Germany.
Lexus even raced the IS F in Europe, Japan, the US and has passed the baton to the Lexus RC F GT3 to continue with global motorsport duties.
The F in name and the logo design is taken from Japan’s Fuji Speedway – one of the earlier key vehicle performance development venues for Lexus.
The “F” symbol is more than just the first letter of its namesake – it also depicts the first corner of Fuji Speedway known as 27R.
In Malaysia, Lexus currently offers F Sport variants on the UX, the NX and the RX models. The IS sedan had an F Sport variant too in the outgoing model but news of the beautiful heavily revised 2020 IS model coming to Malaysia is inconclusive.
