It’s a very fair world we live in – what we gain, we’ll always lose something in return. So when Lexus announced that their new 2019 NX now starts from a lower asking price at RM313,888, with added safety features and a hands-free boot, I asked what’s missing.
Turns out, nothing too significant – the premium Mark Levinson sound system, a panoramic sunroof and wireless touch pad; frivolous items if you ask me.
With the updated model, Lexus Malaysia has omitted the NX300h model with the NX300 Urban, NX300 Premium and NX300 F Sport the only available models.
All three are powered by a 2.0-litre twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder with 235 hp and 350 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, powering all four wheels via the Dynamic Torque Control AWD. 0 to 100 km/h takes just 7.1 seconds with a top speed of 200 km/h.
The highlight of the new Lexus NX has to be the addition of the Lexus Safety System on all variants. The system includes Pre-Collision System with Brake Collision Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, Active Cornering Assist and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
While all three models are equipped with eight airbags, the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert is only available for the Premium model.
Also new to the car is the Adaptive High Beam system for the three LED projector headlamps, along with the addition of the dynamic indicator that utilises 16 LEDS to project a mesmerising visual.
As for the other features and equipment, the NX comes with LED fog lights with cornering function, powered steering adjustment, 18-inch alloys, a Lexus Premium Audio system with eight speakers while notable distinctions in the Premium model includes electronically-reclined rear seats, ventilation for the front seats and a hands-free tail gate.
The fully imported Lexus NX starts from RM313,888 for the Urban variant, RM333,888 for the Premium variant and RM349,888 for the F Sport model. All three models come with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.
