Video: BMW 218i Gran Coupe M Sport launched in Malaysia, 5 Things

This is the new entry point to a four-door BMW sedan, the first-ever BMW 218i Gran Coupe M Sport. Priced at RM211,367, it’s the second most affordable BMW in Malaysia, behind the X1 sDrive18i launched in July.

The front-wheel drive 218i Gran Coupe M Sport is based BMW 1 Series and is locally assembled in Kulim, Kedah. It’s powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder engine, paired to a 7-speed Dual-clutch transmission. It’s good for 140 hp and 220 Nm with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 8.7 seconds.

If you can look past the somewhat questionable rear quarter design, which has drawn mixed opinions online, the BMW 218i Gran Coupe is actually quite generously specified. For starters, it’s dressed with the M Sport kit both on the inside and out.

That means sportier front and rear bumpers, along with 18-inch M Sport wheels and M Sport suspension as well. On the inside, that translates to a pair of supportive M Sports seats in the front, a paddle shifter-less M Sport steering and even M Sport floor mats.

Up ahead is a digital instrument cluster just like the one in the G20 BMW 320i launched earlier this year alongside the X1 sDrive 20i M Sport. To the side is an 8.8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay compatibility, although it will only be available upon subscription.

With the Balloon Financing Plan from BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia, the BMW 218i Gran Coupé M Sport can be yours from RM 2,418.00 monthly based on estimates of an 80% loan on a five-year tenure.
