Aside from launching the BMW M135i xDrive last week, BMW Malaysia also made ownership of a compact BMW SUV more accessible with the introduction of the X1 sDrive18i.

The X1 sDrive18i will be sold alongside the X1 sDrive20i M Sport launched earlier this year, priced at RM233,800. Unlike the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine in the sDrive20i model, with 192 hp and 280 Nm, the sDrive18i is fitted with a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder engine instead with 140 hp and 220 Nm.

Priced at RM208k, it would be wrong to assume that the BMW X1 would be a “kosong spec” type of car. Surprisingly, it’s rather well equipped and more than makes up for what it lacks in the engine department. For starters, it gets autonomous emergency braking – something even the CBU 330i doesn’t have – along with adaptive cruise control, high beam assist, and adaptive cruise control.

And aside from the missing M Sport steering in sDrive20i, the equipment list is nearly identical with the pre-facelift sDrive20i. You still get leather upholstery, dual zone air conditioning, automatic tailgate, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function for the driver.

The X1 sDrive18i is priced RM208,368 on the road without insurance and inclusive of the Sales Tax Exemption. With BMW’s Balloon Financing Plan, the new compact SUV can be yours from RM 2,378.00 per month, based on estimates of an 80% loan on a five-year tenure.
