BMW has issued a global recall that could potentially affect over 500,000 vehicles produced between July 2020 and July 2022. The recall is related to the starter motor which could make the vehicle harder to start or not start at all, according to BMW Blog.
BMW Group Malaysia has released a statement clarifying that it is still ascertaining the exact number of local units affected by the recall. The company stated that its authorised dealer partners will be in touch directly with any affected customers. BMW Group Malaysia assured customers that their vehicles remain safe while the investigation into the Malaysian units continue.

According to BMW Blog, the recall seems to cover a broad range of models, including the 2 Series Coupe (G42), the 3 Series (G20, G21, G28), the 4 Series (G22, G23, G26), and the 5 Series (G30, G31). Also affected are the 6 Series GT (G32), 7 Series (G11, G12), and the X3 through X6 SUV range (G01, G02, G05, G06).
Notably, the Z4 (G29) is included, meaning the mechanically identical Toyota GR Supra is also under scrutiny. In Germany, 28,582 cars are affected, while the recall in the United States involves 87,394 vehicles.
In both markets, the solution is identical and requires a full starter motor replacement. Additionally, the 12V battery may also be replaced in certain cases if deemed necessary to ensure the vehicle is safe.
