MG Motor Malaysia announced that the locally assembled (CKD) MG S5 EV has been launched in Malaysia. Only one variant is available, which is the MG S5 EV LUX, priced at RM117,528 on-the-road without insurance.
Compared to the original three fully imported (CBU) variants offered during the initial market launch, the new CKD model is RM1,628 more expensive than the previous entry-level Com variant, which was priced at RM115,900. However, the savings are far more substantial elsewhere. The new LUX variant is RM8,372 cheaper than the previous Com Long Range priced at RM125,900, and a significant RM18,372 less than the old CBU LUX Long Range, which cost RM135,900.

A notable change with the introduction of the CKD MG S5 EV is the powertrain, where the crossover is now powered by a rear-mounted traction motor that produces 205 hp (151kW) and 350 Nm of torque. These allow 0-100 km/h in 7.0 seconds and a top speed of 170 km/h.
This represents a significant improvement over the previous model, which offered 170 hp (125 kW) and 250 Nm. Despite the increased power output, the driving range has been extended to 446 km (WLTP), an increase from 430 km (WLTP) managed by the CBU LUX Long Range variant.
The extended range is a result of enhanced efficiency in the electric motor and inverter, equipped with the same 62 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Charging specifications remain unchanged, supporting 7 kW AC and 150 kW DC fast charging for a 10-80% recharge in 26 minutes.
Otherwise, the exterior of the CKD MG S5 EV remains largely unchanged from its CBU counterpart, except for the addition of a hands-free powered tailgate, which was previously not offered as standard equipment for the MG S5 EV in Malaysia. Other exterior equipment for the CKD MG S5 EV includes:

Inside, the CKD MG S5 EV features full leatherette upholstery, replacing the previous leather and fabric combination. New comfort features include a power-adjustable front passenger seat and ventilation for both the driver and front passenger seats.
The rest of the interior equipment remains unchanged from before, with the dashboard of the MG S5 EV equipped with a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Other interior equipment of the CKD MG S5 EV includes:

The CKD MG S5 EV is available in three exterior colours, specifically Grey, Silver, and Gold. Priced at RM117,528, the MG S5 EV comes with a seven-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year or 180,000 km battery pack warranty, together with an eight-year or 160,000 km warranty for the motor control unit.
