TQ Wuling Huajing S previewed in Malaysia as flagship 6-seater PHEV SUV

This is the TQ Wuling Huajing S. Yes, it’s from the same brand that brought us the compact Bingo EV hatchback — quite the contrast, isn’t it? Previewed at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026, the Huajing S not only marks its first appearance on Malaysian shores but is also being showcased outside China for the very first time. Its presence here could hint at TQ Wuling’s ambitions to move significantly further upmarket in the future.

Although it is badged as the TQ Wuling Huajing S here, the model was originally introduced in China as the Baojun Huajing S. It only made its public debut at Auto Shanghai earlier this year, making it one of the newest models from the brand. For context, Baojun serves as the group’s more premium-focused marque, developed through a joint venture between SAICGM-Wuling and Huawei.

As for the TQ Wuling Huajing S itself, it’s a seriously large SUV. Measuring 5,235 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,800 mm tall, with a lengthy 3,105 mm wheelbase, it dwarfs many of the six-seater SUVs we’re familiar with in Malaysia. It’s larger than rivals such as the Jaecoo J8, the upcoming Chery Tiggo 9, and even the recently launched Denza B8, while its overall footprint places it closer to full-size luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, and even the Range Rover. As you’d expect from a vehicle of this size, the Huajing S is configured as a six-seater with a 2+2+2 seating layout.

Along with its massive proportions, the Huajing S certainly has the road presence to match. The design relies heavily on long, uninterrupted lines that give the SUV a clean and elegant appearance. Up front sits a slim headlight assembly housed within a single panel, with both headlights connected by a full-width light bar with a zig-zag motif.

Beneath the lighting setup sits a large grille flanked by sizeable side intakes, all accented with a chrome champagne-coloured trim piece that reinforces the SUV’s premium aspirations. Speaking of champagne, the example displayed here wears an eye-catching dual-tone paint finish, pairing a deep wine-red lower body with a contrasting champagne-coloured upper section. The car is also decorated with an intricate pinstripe for an even more luxurious look — almost like what you would find on a Rolls-Royce.

Around the back, the full-width rear light bar mirrors the same zig-zag motif seen up front. Refreshingly, there are no oversized fake exhaust finishers or unnecessary styling gimmicks here. Instead, the lower bumper is left clean and unmolested, resulting in a clean and elegant appearance. A muscular roof spoiler adds a subtle hint of sportiness, while the entire car rides on large 21-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

Step inside and the TQ Wuling Huajing S follows a familiar formula seen in many modern Chinese electrified vehicles. The dashboard sits an 8.8-inch letterbox-style digital instrument cluster paired with a large 15.6-inch central infotainment display, while a floating double-layer centre console houses the wireless charging pads and cupholders.

With Huawei heavily involved in the vehicle’s development, the TQ Wuling Huajing S benefits from the company’s software expertise. Its infotainment system runs on HarmonyOS 5, while driver assistance duties are handled by Huawei’s latest Qiankun ADS 4.0 suite. Supported by high-precision solid-state LiDAR sensors, the system is capable of features such as urban and highway navigation assistance, an enhanced anti-collision system and remote valet parking. In China, the technology even supports Level 3 conditional autonomous driving functions, although such capabilities are unlikely to be offered in Malaysia due to regulatory limitations.

Beyond the technology, notable creature comforts include a Harman Kardon premium sound system, ventilated and massaging second-row captain seats, fold-out airline-style tables and even a built-in refrigerator neatly integrated beneath the centre console.

TQ Wuling Malaysia has yet to disclose any details regarding the SUV’s powertrain, but the specifications available in China provide a good indication of what buyers can expect. The TQ Wuling Huajing S is offered exclusively as a plug-in hybrid, pairing a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 143 hp and 220 Nm with either a single or dual-motor electric drive setup.

The entry-level configuration employs a single front-mounted electric motor driving the front wheels, resulting in a combined output of 272 hp and 310 Nm. Depending on the specification, buyers can choose between a 31-kWh battery offering up to 200 km of EV-only range, or a larger 41.9 kWh unit capable of travelling up to 255 km on the CLTC cycle.

For those seeking greater performance, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant adds a second electric motor on the rear axle, boosting total system outputs to an impressive 525 hp and 630 Nm. That’s enough to propel the large SUV from 0-100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, while still offering up to 235 km of electric-only driving range under the CLTC standard. The Huajing S also supports up to 3.5C DC fast charging, equivalent to roughly 145 kW, allowing the battery to be replenished from 10% to 70% in as little as 14.5 minutes.
