2026 BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport now in Malaysia – new long wheelbase variant, est. from RM255k

BMW Malaysia has unveiled the BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport, a new long wheelbase (LWB) variant of the existing BMW iX1 electric vehicle (EV) SUV with an estimated starting price of RM255,000. Previously, LWB versions of the X1 were exclusive to China, making this the first time a long-wheelbase X1 is officially offered in Malaysia.

The new BMW iX1L is exactly 116 mm longer than the standard iX1 model, courtesy of its wheelbase which has been lengthened by 110 mm. In numbers, the LWB compact crossover measures 4,616 mm long, 1,845 mm wide, 1,616 mm tall, riding on a wheelbase of 2,802 mm.

While the main highlight is its lengthened proportions, the BMW iX1 LWB also sees several new updates to its exterior, including an updated enclosed grille featuring the Extended Shadowline trim. The grille now sports a new graphic texture displayed in a gradient-like pattern for a more sophisticated look. Standard exterior equipment are as follows:

  • Adaptive LED headlights with high-beam assistant
  • M Lights Shadowline
  • LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs)
  • 3D full LED taillights
  • Flush door handles
  • 19-inch M light alloy wheels in Double-spoke style 871M bicolour
  • Welcome lights with illuminated vehicle environment
  • Extended Shadowline trim on front grille, diffuser, and side sills.

Inside, the iX1 LWB continues with BMW’s curved display setup, consisting of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch central touchscreen, running BMW Operating System 9 with BMW Live Cockpit Professional. The biggest addition to this new model is the inclusion of a new panoramic sunroof, complete with a powered fabric sun shade. The Standard interior equipment for the Malaysian market includes:

  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 10.7-inch central infotainment screen
  • BMW Operating System 9
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Wireless charging pad
  • BMW Live Cockpit Professional with Augmented View
  • Multi-function M leather steering wheel
  • Aluminium Hexacube Pale M interior trim
  • Panoramic sunroof with fabric shade
  • 12-Speaker 205W Harman Kardon Sound System
  • Sport seats for driver and front passenger with electric adjustment (driver memory)
  • BMW Head-Up Display
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • 490-litre boot space (1,600 litres with rear seats folded)

BMW says that the extended wheelbase translates to an additional 81 mm of legroom and 107 mm of knee room for rear passengers compared to the standard iX1. The rear seats have also been treated to softer foam cushioning and a 15 mm longer seat base, allowing for better under-thigh support on longer journeys.

Boot capacity remains at 490 litres with the rear seats up, but the extended body means maximum cargo space has increase to 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded, up from 1,495 litres in the standard iX1.

The new BMW iX1L will be offered in a sole eDrive20L M Sport variant in Malaysia for now. This means that power is provided by a single electric motor powering the front wheels (FWD), producing up to 204 hp and 250 Nm of torque. With this setup, the iX1 eDrive20L completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in a slightly longer 8.6 seconds compared to its SWB sibling, and reaches a top speed of 175 km/h.

The new BMW iX1 LWB also sports a 66.5 kWh battery pack allowing for a WLTP-rated driving range of up to 433 km. Charging performance is identical to the standard variant as well. The iX1 LWD supports 11 kW AC charging, allowing a full charge in approximately 6 hours and 45 minutes, while DC fast charging at up to 130 kW enables a 10-80% charge in about 32 minutes, and can fill up 120 km of range in just 10 minutes.
